Who is Diluc?

Diluc Ragnvindr, a formidable Pyro character in the popular game Genshin Impact, hails from the prestigious Ragnvindr Clan. As the current proprietor of the Dawn Winery, he stands as a noble figure of great repute within the city of Mondstadt. Despite a historical event leading to his separation from the Knights of Favonius, Diluc remains dedicated to safeguarding Mondstadt through his distinct methods and unwavering commitment.

Personality of Diluc

Kaeya humorously dubs himself and Diluc as “anti-heroes with attitude problems” in their dynamic duo. However, Diluc finds himself reluctantly thrust into the role of Mondstadt’s “Darknight Hero,” a moniker that brings him more chagrin than pride, as he endeavors to safeguard the city’s populace.

Once hailed as an exemplar within the ranks of the Knights of Favonius, Diluc‘s path diverged drastically following the tragic demise of his father, attributed to the misuse of a Delusion. Compounded by Inspector Eroch’s directive to conceal the incident, Diluc’s faith in the organization shattered, leading to his resignation. Even after Eroch’s expulsion for treason, resentment towards the Knights lingers in Diluc’s heart. While he criticizes their sluggish approach, he reserves admiration for dedicated individuals like Lisa and Jean.

Crepus, Diluc’s father, epitomized admiration and guidance in his life. Diluc cherished his father’s praise above all else, with Crepus instilling in him a sense of duty and loyalty. However, upon Crepus’s tragic passing, Diluc retreated into himself, masking his once-lighthearted demeanor with bitterness and reserve.

Unusually for the owner of Mondstadt’s premier winery, Diluc harbors a distaste for alcohol, finding solace in non-alcoholic beverages like grape juice and apple cider. Despite his role in the wine industry, this preference remains obscure to many. Diluc‘s penchant for simplicity extends to his possessions, as he readily discards items of sentimental value, such as his father’s estate.

Appearance of Diluc

Diluc embodies the tall stature of the male model, standing with an air of commanding presence. His complexion is pale, serving as a canvas for the intensity of his piercing red eyes, which seem to hold untold depths of determination. Cascading down his back, his fiery red hair captivates attention, reaching a length that falls gracefully to the middle of his back, a striking testament to his distinctive appearance.

With ownership of such a cornerstone establishment, Diluc wields not only considerable revenue but also an extensive web of information, gleaned from the whispers and chatter of tavern patrons. In this regard, he assumes the unspoken mantle of Mondstadt’s preeminent figure, commanding influence and authority akin to that of an uncrowned monarch.

1st character story

In the atmospheric streets of Mondstadt, the pervasive aroma of wine is a constant companion, leading wanderers inevitably to the doorstep of Diluc‘s illustrious Dawn Winery. A wooden plaque proudly displays the winery’s name, beneath which the motto is etched: “Shine True.”

Interpretations of this phrase vary: to many, it signifies a commitment to crafting wines of unwavering quality, employing traditional methods infused with the optimism akin to the break of dawn. For the pragmatic Knights of Favonius, it serves as a reminder of the enduring partnership between the winery and the city.

Periodic festivities hosted by the winery draw eager crowds, including fathers keen on introducing their daughters to the young and eligible winery master. Amidst the lighthearted banter of guests, the jest is often made: “We’d much rather Master Diluc stays married to the winery, given how good this wine is!”

Through every interaction, Diluc maintains impeccable composure, navigating social intricacies with grace and poise. In the eyes of all who encounter him, Diluc epitomizes the essence of a fine young gentleman, embodying integrity and refinement in every aspect of his being.

2nd character story

Diluc remains reticent when it comes to discussing his past.

“If only Diluc were still a member of the Knights…”

Senior knights, after indulging in a few drinks, often reminisce with a sigh, alluding to events long past. These reminiscences trace back to the era when Diluc’s father, Master Crepus, presided over the winery. Master Crepus harbored a fervent desire for his son to ascend as the most esteemed knight, safeguarding Mondstadt, the City of Freedom.

In accordance with his father’s aspirations, Diluc embarked on a journey of rigorous training to uphold the honor of the Ragnvindr lineage. His dedication bore fruit as he successfully navigated the trials of the Knights of Favonius, pledging his solemn oath to protect Mondstadt upon joining their esteemed ranks. Swiftly rising through the ranks, he attained the distinction of becoming the youngest-ever Cavalry Captain.

Throughout his endeavors, the denizens of Mondstadt grew acquainted with this youthful and impassioned Cavalry Captain. Regardless of the trials he faced, Diluc maintained his unwavering composure and fervor, courageously leading from the front lines. The accolades he garnered from comrades and citizens alike fueled his determination.

Yet, amidst the chorus of praise, one voice resonated above all:

“Good job. Now, that’s my son.”

His father’s words kindled a flame within him, igniting his resolve and serving as his paramount inspiration.

His faith burned fiercely, an indomitable blaze that illuminated his path.

Diluc was but a youth in those days.

3rd character story

“Sometimes, life can change in an instant.”

The day Crepus imparted these words to Diluc marked the precipice of the latter’s departure from the Knights of Favonius.

On that fateful day, a grotesque monstrosity assailed the transport convoy carrying Diluc and his father. The encounter swiftly spiraled into a desperate battle against an adversary of unparalleled ferocity, overwhelming even the seasoned Cavalry Captain.

In an unforeseen turn, Crepus, a figure spurned by both the Knights and the divine, harnessed an enigmatic power to vanquish the creature, only to succumb to the same force, breathing his last in his son’s embrace.

With a heart heavy with grief, Diluc returned to the Knights’ sanctum, only to be greeted by Inspector Eroch’s incredulous decree: “Conceal the truth.”

Eroch’s insistence on masking the incident as a mere mishap for the sake of the Knights’ reputation rendered Diluc speechless with indignation.

Diluc’s father had once imparted that the faithful would never be forsaken by the world. Yet now, the Knights trampled upon his faith with callous disregard. In the wake of such betrayal, Diluc questioned his father’s final sentiments on faith.

That day marked Diluc’s irrevocable resignation from the Knights, relinquishing all ties, including his Vision. With solemn resolve, he vowed retribution for his father’s untimely demise and resolved to unearth the sinister origins of the occult power that had claimed his father’s life.

4th character story

After resigning from his duties and relinquishing control of the Dawn Winery, Diluc embarked on an odyssey spanning the seven nations of Teyvat, driven by an unyielding quest for truth.

All trails led to one ominous entity: The Fatui. Within their clandestine operations lay the production of counterfeit Visions, masquerading as “Delusions.” These artifacts, while amplifying the bearer’s abilities to extraordinary levels, bore the deadly risk of catastrophic backlash—a truth that claimed Diluc’s father.

Could it be that his father sought such a forbidden artifact in pursuit of righteousness?

Though the full extent of his father’s actions remained shrouded, Diluc’s resolve remained unbroken. Like a relentless eagle soaring across boundless skies, he pursued his quarry with unwavering determination, undeterred by the mysteries and perils that lay in wait.

From the shadowy periphery, the Fatui’s overlords, the Harbingers, observed Diluc’s relentless crusade. His relentless assault on their strongholds forced their hand, prompting intervention.

Only through the timely intervention of a mysterious benefactor from the north, affiliated with a sprawling clandestine network, did Diluc narrowly evade the Harbingers’ grasp. This enigmatic figure, a seasoned observer, recognized Diluc’s methods and sanctioned his endeavors.

Confronted with mortality’s chilling embrace, Diluc reflected deeply on his past and the festering anger that had consumed him. Acknowledging his own fallibility, he embraced a new path, aligning himself with the underground intelligence network.

Just as he once pledged his allegiance to the Knights of Favonius, Diluc committed his talents to the cause, swiftly ascending the network’s ranks. Among its diverse membership, Diluc found solidarity in shared sacrifice and a collective pursuit of justice—values he once thought lost.

Could this newfound alliance with kindred spirits rekindle the faith he once held dear? The faith that faltered amidst the shadows of his father’s demise?

5th character story

“Shine True.” The origin of this motto remains a topic of heated debate, yet for Diluc, its meaning is clear and unequivocal.

“Evil cannot go unpunished.
Never settle for mediocrity. Never forget that the dawn will one day come.”

Diluc’s solitary odyssey extended over three years. Upon his return to Mondstadt, now a young man at the helm of the family winery, four years had elapsed.

During this period, Eroch faced expulsion from the Knights of Favonius for treason, while Grand Master Varka embarked on an expedition, leaving Acting Grand Master Jean in charge.

The resurgence of the Dawn Winery’s master, a momentous occasion for Mondstadt, went curiously unnoticed. The citizens were preoccupied with the enigma of an anonymous “Guardian of Mondstadt.”

Known solely by the scent of burning that trailed in his wake and a fleeting silhouette of red flames in the night, the guardian executed swift justice and vanished.

Monsters that long plagued Mondstadt were found lifeless in the wilderness. The city’s most notorious thieves appeared trussed up in the statue plaza. The Knights of Favonius, mobilized to confront the Abyss Mage responsible for numerous crimes, arrived only to discover he had met his demise.

Fueled by wine-infused tales, rumors of the mysterious guardian spread rapidly, christening him the “Darknight Hero.”

Publicly, Diluc displayed apparent disdain for this hero, his countenance contorting with disgust at the mere mention of the name.

Among the privileged few in the know, Elzer from the Mondstadt Wine Guild questioned Diluc: Was his aversion to the Darknight Hero a charade to mislead the knights and safeguard his anonymity?

Diluc’s response was terse, his frown deepening as he curtly retorted: “It’s just a stupid name.”

Vision

Crepus carried two unfulfilled wishes throughout his life: the longing to become a knight and the desire to obtain a Vision. When Diluc finally received his Vision, he perceived it as a divine acknowledgment of their shared aspirations—a chance to honor his father’s legacy and bring him pride.

Tragically, just a short time later, Crepus passed away on a somber, rain-drenched evening. The radiant hopes kindled by Diluc’s Vision were extinguished amid the downpour, leaving him grappling with the harsh reality of mortality’s unpredictability.

“Is this where the tale of justice ends? Just like that?”

Diluc pondered the fleeting nature of life and the limitations of power, recognizing that neither his Vision nor his knighthood guaranteed protection for what he held dear. Faced with his perceived powerlessness, he chose to cast aside both symbols, deeming them as burdens akin to a Delusion.

Diluc art

“Empty titles were of no interest to him.”

He sought not hollow distinctions but fervent flames that could incinerate injustice and an unyielding resolve. Recognizing that true strength emanated from unwavering determination, Diluc reclaimed his Vision upon his return to Mondstadt.

The trials of his absence had tempered his youthful impulsiveness, forging him into a resolute hero poised to carry forth his father’s legacy. Night after night, he waged his clandestine battle for Mondstadt, shrouded in the shadows yet ablaze with determination.

Though Diluc remained reticent about the past, he neither shunned nor denied its influence.

“To the lost, perhaps a Vision is a beacon of light…”

For those with unwavering conviction, a Vision transcended mere symbolism—it became an embodiment of strength, a conduit for their unwavering resolve, and a testament to the trials that shaped their journey.
