Japanese animation studio HOTLINE and production partners announced that voice actress Eri Yukimura has joined the TV anime adaptation of The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan as noble student Tesfia Fable. The update arrived on October 28, 2026, with a new visual showing Tesfia ready for fight scenes before the planned 2027 TV run on Japan’s CBC and TBS networks [1]. Work on the fantasy series continues in Tokyo as the core cast takes shape [4].
Magicmasters Retirement Plan Voice Cast
Yukimura steps into the role of Tesfia, becoming the third lead set for the TV anime ahead of its planned run [5]. The voice actress earlier voiced Hikari Myodo in Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez [1]. Production notes show that her role will train under protagonist Alus Reigin [2].
Yukimura joins male lead Yuto Uemura, who voices retired combat prodigy Alus Reigin after starring as Atsushi Nakajima in Bungo Stray Dogs. Voice star Yui Ogura plays Alus’s lightning partner Loki Leevahl, building on her past work as Kokona Aoba in Encouragement of Climb [5]. Loki holds rank 157. She pledged personal loyalty to Alus after he saved her life during front-line combat against invading monsters [4].
In a translated comment released through official press channels, Yukimura said Tesfia is a girl who possesses “a very strong heart” and never runs from hard work when trying to grow stronger. She also warned that Tesfia’s habit of charging straight ahead can sometimes leave her spinning her wheels. The team launched a signed card giveaway on the official X page to mark the casting news [1].

Tesfia Fable and Combat Role
Tesfia belongs to the noble Fable family and enters the school as a first-year student eager to become an elite fighter [4]. Despite her noble roots, she hates losing and shows a sharp competitive edge while caring deeply for her peers [1]. She uses ice magic [4].
In the newly released visual, Tesfia holds her family’s heirloom sword, using the weapon to direct ice magic before battle [4]. In the story’s setting, human fighters rely on these armed tools because regular guns and swords fail against invading monsters [1]. Tesfia takes hard lessons from Alus with close friend Alice. Alice will train with Alus [4].
While Tesfia now has official art and voice talent, several core roles haven’t been revealed. The team hasn’t named the voice for Alice, nor have staff members shared art for other classmates. More cast names will arrive as promotional work continues before the 2027 TV run [4].

Story and Academy Mission
The story takes place in a world where humanity has fought brutal monsters known as Fiends for roughly a century after standard weapons proved useless. To avoid extinction, human nations armed magic tools and formed a standing force of more than 100,000 Magicmasters to guard remaining lands [4]. Alus Reigin became humanity’s top fighter, taking back large areas of lost ground [2].
After spending his youth fighting on front lines, Alus finishes his military tour and asks to retire at age 16 to pursue a quiet life. Military heads refuse to let their top-ranked Single fighter go without conditions, forcing him into a deal where he must attend a magic school under a hidden name [1]. His secret job requires him to teach young mages while protecting humanity from fresh monster attacks [2].
Life at the magical institute creates constant tension for young Alus because his practical battlefield instincts clash directly with the formal academic curriculum taught to privileged young nobles inside safe classroom walls [2]. He finds himself mentoring promising young mages, including Tesfia and Alice, who have little understanding of the horrific combat conditions beyond the defensive perimeter [4]. Although Alus wants quiet days away from combat, unexpected monster raids and dangerous political plots pull him back into high-stakes skirmishes [1]. His military partner Loki soon joins him at the academy, using her lightning magic to safeguard his true identity and assist his instruction [4]. Alus must balance his teaching duties with covert defensive operations to protect the school [2]. War follows him everywhere [1].

Magicmasters Retirement Plan Light Novels
Author Izushiro first published the story as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro site before publisher Hobby Japan picked up the work for print release under its HJ Bunko label in 2017. Illustrator Ruria Miyuki draws the art for the original light novel books, giving form to Alus, Loki, and Tesfia [3]. The print series has reached 20 books in Japan, with total print counts topping 1 million copies [4].
Digital publisher J-Novel Club prints the official English books, selling translated volumes to overseas readers [2]. Japanese releases continue through Hobby Japan, with Volume 21 set to hit shelves on December 1, 2026 [4]. That steady schedule shows solid reader backing after nine years in print [3].
The fantasy world also grew into print manga through artist Karu Yoneshiro, who drew The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan: The Alternative for Square Enix’s Gangan Comics UP! label [1]. The manga spans 10 volumes [4]. Yoneshiro will return this winter to draw a prequel manga titled Saikyou Mahoushi no Inton Keikaku Zero -Hajimari no Hishiroku-, following earlier historical events in the setting [1].

Broadcast Plans for 2027
The TV anime will begin airing in 2027 on 28 stations across Japan on the Agaru Anime block run by CBC and TBS [1]. Japanese networks haven’t yet set a premiere month or shared weekly time slots for the initial broadcast run. Overseas streaming deals also remain unannounced at this point in the schedule [4].
Director Yusuke Suzuki, who directed This Monster Wants to Eat Me, leads the crew at studio HOTLINE [3]. Scriptwriter Juichiro Ichikawa oversees story composition following his past work on Jobraver and Himitsu no AiPri. Yuki Kitajima designs characters. Takatoshi Hamano directs sound for the TV run [2].
Hobby Japan previously shared an official teaser video showing Alus fighting monsters on the front lines before entering the magic school. Key production details remain open, as producers haven’t yet revealed the total episode count, opening theme artist, or ending music [4]. Fans of the light novels have followed the property since its early web novel days, watching it expand from digital chapters into full print runs, manga adaptations, and now a major television anime [3]. Viewers can look forward to more character art and broadcast news from studio HOTLINE as the 2027 premiere draws near [4].
