Contemporary Earthquakes Could Stem from 1800s Seismic Activity: A Possible Aftershock Connection
During the 1800s, the continental interior of North America witnessed some of the most powerful earthquakes recorded in U.S. history. Nearly two centuries later, a study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth suggests that the central and eastern United States may still be undergoing aftershocks stemming from those historical events.
