Avengers The Kang Dynasty

Avengers – The Kang Dynasty Continues Despite Challenges

Marvel’s upcoming film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty may still feature Kang the Conqueror as the primary threat despite recent doubts.

Marvel’s Kang dilemma

Similar to how Thanos served as the overarching antagonist throughout the Marvel movies in The Infinity Saga, the focus has shifted to positioning Kang the Conqueror as the primary threat for The Multiverse Saga. The groundwork for this has been laid in previous appearances of various iterations of Kang, notably in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The intention has been for Kang to assume a central role in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, the recent dismissal of Jonathan Majors from Marvel Studios has raised doubts about whether Kang will still be the focal point of the fifth Avengers movie. Despite this, current indications suggest that Marvel Studios is maintaining course on this particular project.

While several updates were announced today regarding the release schedule of upcoming Disney films, such as The Mandalorian & Grogu and Toy Story 5 slated for May 22, 2026, and June 19, 2026, respectively, the title of Avengers 5 remains unchanged. It is still titled The Kang Dynasty and is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026. Additionally, Avengers: Secret Wars retains its title and is set for release on May 7, 2027.

For those not privy to the behind-the-scenes developments at Marvel Studios, Jonathan Majors was terminated from his role after his involvement in an assault trial. This presents a challenge considering Kang the Conqueror’s significant role in future Marvel projects. Speculation among fans has entertained the possibility of selecting a different villain to replace Majors’ character. However, the fact that Marvel continues to refer to the film as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, even four months after Majors’ departure, suggests that Kang himself remains integral to the storyline.

Avengers The Kang Dynasty, Avengers 5

Kang the Conqueror’s fate in Avengers 5

While Marvel Studios could potentially alter its plans and rename Avengers 5 in the future, at present, it appears likely that Kang the Conqueror will be recast rather than replaced altogether. Despite the multitude of Kang variants depicted in the Quantumania end-credits scene resembling Jonathan Majors to varying extents, recent Marvel productions like Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home have demonstrated that individuals across the Marvel multiverse can differ significantly in appearance. Rumors circulating since January have even suggested that Colman Domingo is being considered by Marvel Studios as a replacement for Kang.

Nevertheless, if there are any developments regarding the upcoming Avengers films or the casting of Kang the Conqueror, we’ll keep you informed. In the meantime, it’s worth noting that 2026 also sees the release of two untitled Marvel movies on February 13 and November 6. Additionally, subscribers can access nearly all of the MCU’s released films and television shows through Disney+.
