Two books a month, then a different ending: the Black Bullet reboot now has a publishing schedule. Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko announced Shiden Kanzaki’s return to the series on September 9, Anime News Network reports. The novel relaunch, Black Bullet: New World Order, starts in November 2026, revisits familiar material, and changes course in January. Where will the new books leave the original story behind? [1]
Black Bullet Reboot Starts in November
Dengeki Bunko plans to release eight books across four consecutive months, ending in February 2027. Readers will get two volumes in November, two in December, and another pair in each of the following months. Kanzaki’s original series ran to seven volumes. The new schedule therefore contains one more book, although its numbering groups several releases into two-part installments. Readers comparing editions will need to follow the subtitles as well as the numbers. [1]
Kanzaki will begin with the original story, adding and editing material for the November and December books. Dengeki Bunko has placed the narrative departure later in the schedule. January’s releases will start moving away from the earlier version, before February’s books reach a different ending. The publisher has described when the change happens without revealing the events that produce it. Readers can mark the turning point on a calendar, but cannot yet trace the new plot. [1]

Familiar Titles Lead the Return
November opens with Those Who Would Be Gods and Against a Perfect Sniper, numbered 01 and 02. Anime News Network uses the existing Yen Press English titles when listing familiar volumes. Those English names help identify the returning stories; the report does not supply an English-language release schedule for the reboot. December follows with installment 03 in two books. Book 1 carries the title The Destruction of the World by Fire; Book 2 is Vengeance is Mine. Both belong to the period that retains the original storyline with additions and edits. Across these first two months, readers will have four volumes in hand before the announced divergence begins. The publisher has not detailed those early revisions in the report. It therefore remains unclear how much fresh material appears within the familiar story. January’s first book is Tōbōhanshi, Satomi Rentarō. Anime News Network distinguishes that wording from the original fifth volume’s Japanese title, Tōbōhan, Satomi Rentarō. Yen Press published the earlier book in English as Rentaro Satomi, Fugitive. The second January release carries the familiar subtitle Purgatory Strider. February pairs The Bullet That Changed the World with Justice & Unjustice, forming installment 05, Books 1 and 2. The final subtitle is entirely new; it did not appear in the original seven-volume run. Dengeki Bunko also promises a different ending in this final month’s releases. Kanzaki’s return consequently gives existing readers two points to watch. The opening books contain revisions, while January begins the alternate course that leads into February’s ending. Kanzaki published the original novels through Dengeki Bunko from July 2011 to April 2014. Saki Ukai illustrated the seven-volume series, and Yen Press released all seven books in English. The Black Bullet reboot arrives more than twelve years after the last original volume. Readers who followed that edition now have a concrete date for returning to the story, though the announcement leaves the new ending under wraps. [1, 2]
Hon Morino also adapted the novels into manga. The adaptation ran in Kadokawa’s Dengeki Maoh magazine from August 2012 to June 2014. Kadokawa collected it into four volumes, and Yen Press released the full manga in English as well. Yen Press lists the adaptation separately, with its own first volume and four-book catalog. The television anime premiered in April 2014, the same month the original novel run reached its seventh volume. Kinema Citrus and Orange animated the series. Crunchyroll streamed it, and Sentai Filmworks licensed it. For viewers who first encountered the title on screen, the announcement points back to its books. Dengeki Bunko also announced Aku no Shinzui (The Quintessence of Evil), a new original work by Kanzaki. The publisher plans to launch it in spring 2027. That places it after the February endpoint of the Black Bullet reboot schedule. The report gives the new work’s title and season, while leaving its story and illustrator for later announcements. It describes a separate original work, without identifying it as part of the returning series. [1]
