Remedy Entertainment posted a sharp earnings turnaround for the third quarter of 2026, driven by Control Resonant sales that topped one million copies within three weeks of launch. Remedy generated €39.6 million in total revenue between July and September, more than tripling its sales from the prior year [4]. The debut was the fastest-selling launch in the 31-year history of Remedy, lifting the developer back into operating profit as it sells games on its own without a third-party publisher [2].

Quarterly Turnaround Driven by Control Resonant Sales

Third quarter revenue rose 226% compared to the same three-month period in 2025, driven by the late-September release of Control Resonant across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC storefronts. GamesIndustry.biz reporter Sophie McEvoy reported that sales from the final seven days of September provided the primary financial lift for the entire quarterly earnings report [4].

Operating results also swung into positive territory, with Remedy booking an operating profit of €0.6 million for the three-month stretch after suffering a €16.4 million operating loss during the third quarter of 2025 [1]. CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon spoke to investors about the quarterly results, calling the launch a “defining milestone for the company” as Remedy expanded into large-scale self-publishing [2]. Gaudechon said the launch gave Remedy a solid footing for growth as teams continue production work on several major game projects. Michael Harradence of PlayStation Universe reported that the report marked the first profitable quarter for Remedy in over a year and gave Finnish studio executives confidence in their financial roadmap [1].

Control Resonant launched digitally on September 24 for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S before boxed physical discs shipped to retail stores on October 15 [1]. By that October date, Control Resonant had already passed one million copies sold, setting a company speed record for Finnish developer Remedy. It didn’t take long to find buyers across major regional markets [2].

Audience Demographics Across Key Markets

Strong Control Resonant sales in the United States led the launch, accounting for nearly half of all players across PC and home consoles. On PC storefronts, players in Chinese-speaking territories took second place in total sales volume, and the UK ranked third [4].

Console storefronts showed a different geographic spread, with the UK, Canada, and Brazil following the United States as Brazil claimed fourth place among console players [4]. Connor Makar of Eurogamer.net reported that this wide international reach helped Remedy draw fans well beyond its base in Finland, with interest spreading without big localized ad pushes [3]. Gaudechon said that reaching varied regions early helped validate Remedy’s plan to sell its games directly to consumers worldwide [2].

Remedy player data showed that almost 50% of buyers were new to the series and had never bought the 2019 game Control [2]. Remedy built Control Resonant so newcomers could pick up the story without feeling left behind by previous lore. In a press statement, Remedy said, “Reaching new players was a key goal for this game, and these early results indicate a growing audience for the franchise and for Remedy” [1].

Reviews and Technical Scalability

Reviews showed strong praise from players, pairing an 83 Metacritic score from critics with an 8.8 user score on Metacritic and a 91% positive rating on Steam. On PlayStation 5, customer ratings reached 4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7/5) [2]. Remedy answered launch feedback by releasing a day-one combat patch to smooth out early enemy encounters, while designers monitored community feedback closely to ensure combat difficulty felt balanced for newcomers exploring the setting [1].

Game performance on diverse PC hardware helped support these scores, as Remedy built the game on its in-house Northlight engine to scale smoothly across different graphics cards. Gaudechon said, “We see the game as an excellent entry into the large action-RPG genre. We are also pleased with the game’s technical performance and the positive commentary over its scalability across a variety of PC hardware which meant a larger audience could enjoy CONTROL Resonant. This is a testament to our in-house Northlight game engine, which enables the distinctive look and feel that has come to define Remedy’s games”. The Northlight engine allowed Remedy to deliver detailed environmental destruction without triggering performance dips on older gaming PCs [2].

Reviewer Alessio Palumbo tested Control Resonant for Wccftech and awarded the game an 8 out of 10 score. Palumbo said Finnish developer Remedy took major creative risks by shifting to an open world and introducing action-RPG systems alongside a new protagonist named Dylan. Palumbo wrote that although Remedy is still learning open-world action RPG design, the core combat mechanics keep the adventure engaging from start to finish [2].

Self-Publishing Royalties and Production Budgets

Direct game sales and royalties brought in €35 million of the €39.6 million total, up from €6 million in the same quarter last year. By publishing the game itself, Remedy keeps more income from each digital copy sold. But Remedy also pays console store fees and disc pressing costs itself [4].

Development fees brought Remedy €4.3 million during the third quarter, combining milestone funding from Rockstar Games for the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes with final fee accruals under an agreement with Annapurna for Control Resonant. Remedy said royalties paid to Annapurna will shrink once Remedy recoups its upfront project investments. Remedy handles all sales fees on its own books, so operating margins should widen as first-year launch costs fade [4].

Remedy began depreciating game creation costs right after the September launch, with marketing expenses hitting an annual peak during the same release window. Past releases also brought in steady cash for Remedy. Remedy confirmed that Alan Wake 2 has fully depreciated its capitalized costs, and the 2019 game Control beat its sales from the first half of 2026 [4].

Future Control Resonant Sales Outlook

Remedy shared that digital storefront wishlists for Control Resonant reached 2.4 million on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Remedy said this large backlog of interested players provides strong sales potential as seasonal discounts arrive [4]. Gaudechon said the main goal now is to get Control Resonant into the hands of more players [2]. Remedy is also developing a photo mode roadmap update to give players creative photography tools while technical teams in Helsinki maintain overall game stability [4].

Future Control Resonant sales will shape the full-year financial results for Remedy Entertainment in 2026, determining how much capital the Finnish studio can allocate to other projects in its development pipeline. CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon said Remedy will invest with strict commercial discipline. In his financial outlook address, Gaudechon said, “Sales over the remainder of the year will ultimately define our financial year 2026. Resonant gives us a solid foundation for growth” [4].

Remedy established a durable franchise with Control Resonant, providing production teams in Finland with steady financial footing as staff work alongside Rockstar Games on the upcoming Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes [1]. Remedy proved it can self-publish [2]. Speaking to European shareholders, Gaudechon confirmed that the successful autumn launch proved Control is now a durable franchise capable of supporting Remedy through 2027 and beyond [4].
