At a train station, Otogi Katsura drops the perfect manners that underpin the romance coming to the False Angels anime, and Toki Ninomae likes what he sees. The adaptation’s team has unveiled its promotional video and lead cast, with Anime News Network identifying the Aniplex One Focus livestream as an announcement source. Nao Ojika voices Otogi. Taito Ban plays Toki. MAPPA will bring Coco Uzuki’s Fall in Love, You False Angels to television in 2027. [1, 2]
False Angels Anime Finds Its Leads
Nao Ojika plays the class president. Taito Ban voices her vice president. Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae both enjoy polished reputations at school, where their classmates admire them without knowing how different their private personalities can be. The new promotional video introduces the actors’ performances as this deceptively well-behaved pair. Anime Trending reported their casting on September 12, together with the production’s newly announced music contributors. [1, 4]
The series adapts Coco Uzuki’s Fall in Love, You False Angels (Koiseyo Mayakashi Tenshidomo), a shojo manga about two admired students who discover each other’s carefully concealed sides. MAPPA handles the animation, a role the project had confirmed before this latest trailer. The new announcement puts voices to the central relationship, giving the promotional campaign something a still illustration cannot supply: the actors’ performances as Otogi and Toki. [1, 3]
Character introductions also drive the Saber trailer for Fate/EXTRA Record, another current campaign built around a named performer’s character rather than a release date alone. For Otogi and Toki, the introduction carries a particular complication: each has a public face to maintain. Kodansha USA’s description puts their first private discovery outside school, where Otogi has much less patience for the boys approaching her. [1, 3]
A Perfect Image Starts to Slip
Kodansha USA calls Otogi a “heartthrob angel” in its description of the manga, which Anime Trending and Anime Corner reproduce in their reports. Her classmates see an attractive, exemplary first-year student. Otogi works to preserve that impression. Privately, she speaks bluntly and pushes back when someone crosses her, leaving a considerable distance between the girl her classmates admire and the one Toki begins to know. [1, 3]
At the train station, a group of boys approaches Otogi, and she answers them without maintaining the sweet manner that has earned her such a polished reputation at school. Toki sees her response. He likes it. The vice president then reveals that his own courteous behavior conceals another side, turning what could have been an embarrassing exposure for Otogi into a discovery about someone she thought she understood. Kodansha USA describes the pair agreeing to protect each other’s secrets from their classmates, while Otogi finds herself increasingly drawn to him. Their agreement gives them a private connection inside a school where both have an image to maintain. [1]

Otogi now has an accomplice. Kodansha USA’s description uses the phrase “partner in crime” for Toki, capturing the pact behind their developing attraction. The False Angels anime will bring that premise to television through Ojika and Ban, whose characters must move between the faces they show their class and the behavior they allow each other to see. [1, 3]
Who Is Making the Adaptation?
Yasutomo Okamoto directs the adaptation. Anime Trending lists his earlier work as co-director on episode 11 of Lazarus and episode 6 of Zenshu, providing specific credits behind the name leading this production. Yohei Yamazaki handles series composition (the series-level writing role), while Mariko Oka designs the characters. Oka’s credits include The Rose of Versailles and Hell Girl. [1]
Takumi Hashimoto serves as art director. Kana Tanabe handles color design. Anime Corner names Hashimoto in its main staff list, while Anime Trending identifies Tanabe and connects her earlier work with Lazarus, where Okamoto also has an episode credit. Mariko Oka brings experience with The Rose of Versailles to the False Angels anime, joining a studio that recently adapted that manga for the cinema. [1, 3]
MAPPA has adapted shojo manga before. Anime Corner points to its 2018 television adaptation of Banana Fish, which ran in the magazine Bessatsu Shojo Comic despite its frequent association with crime and action. Ai Yoshimura directed MAPPA’s film adaptation of The Rose of Versailles. Japanese theaters opened that film in January 2025, and Netflix later streamed it. Uzuki’s romance adds a school setting and two carefully maintained reputations to the studio’s shojo adaptations. [3]

Kensuke Ushio Takes Music Production
Kensuke Ushio joins as music producer. Yunosuke Seno and Yuhki Kurihara compose. Anime Trending names all three in its September 12 report, assigning Ushio a different role from the two musicians credited with composing the anime’s score. Ushio’s earlier composing credits include Chainsaw Man and A Silent Voice, but the new announcement specifically places him in music production for Otogi and Toki’s story. [1]
Voice casting and music credits arrive together in this reveal; MAPPA’s involvement in the adaptation was already public. [1, 3]
Ojika and Ban can now put voices to the contrast Kodansha USA describes: Otogi’s admired school persona conceals a blunt temperament, while Toki’s courteous manner hides his own less familiar side. Seno, Kurihara and Ushio make up the announced music team around those performances. The False Angels anime draws its central relationship from a manga that has already earned recognition at the Kodansha Manga Awards, with an English edition available before the television debut. [1, 3]
An Award Winner Heads Toward 2027
Coco Uzuki began the manga in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine in April 2023. The seventh collected volume reached Japan on June 12, 2026, according to Anime News Network. The series won the shojo category at the 49th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2025, a result Anime Corner highlights in its account of the adaptation. Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English, offering a way into Otogi and Toki’s story before the television version. [2, 3]
Anime News Network also reports a 2025 Shogakukan Manga Awards nomination and appearances among the top 20 manga for female readers in Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guide across multiple years. The manga is currently on hiatus. ANN says it returns in November, placing the next reported manga milestone ahead of the anime’s planned debut the following year. [2]
The anime’s announced release window is 2027. Anime Trending and Anime Corner both give that year; their September 12 reports do not specify a premiere day, episode count or streaming service. A season within 2027 also remains unspecified in those reports. Before that television debut, the next dated milestone belongs to Uzuki’s manga: Anime News Network reports that serialization will resume in November following its current hiatus. [1, 2, 3]
