Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 Adds Phoenix, Severian, and Mechs

HoYoverse has revealed Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3, titled Journey to the Sky, launching on October 21 with S-Rank Agents Phoenix and Severian, story mech combat, and seasonal Hollow trials.

HoYoverse announced that Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3, titled Journey to the Sky, will launch on October 21, 2026. The update brings two new S-Rank playable Agents named Phoenix and Severian into the urban action game, while expanding the main campaign with a fresh story chapter set around the sky island of Roscaelifer. Players will also get their first chance to pilot combat mechs during infiltration missions, alongside seasonal Halloween events and quality-of-life additions. The release lands on PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Android [1].

Zenless Zone Zero Takes Story to Roscaelifer

The new story chapter escalates the ongoing clash over the floating territory of Roscaelifer, which first joined the narrative in Version 3.0. Travel to the island of Booastrum is completely locked down. Proxies must find an open route through the occupied skyport known as Quietude Isle. To reach their goal, players touch down on the island with Lindverne as they search for the truth surrounding the three Sunbringers and the Karma Cores inside them [3].

Reaching the island forces two prominent figures from rival factions to work side by side during the crisis. Judge Phoenix, who serves as second-in-command for combat at the Krampus Compliance Authority, has to travel with Commissioner Severian of New Eridu Public Security. They can’t avoid each other. Although their methods differ, the pair must set aside old friction to escort the group safely through enemy territory [3].

The narrative focus on Roscaelifer also sets the stage for future updates that HoYoverse shared during its Version 3.3 Special Program broadcast. Developers confirmed that Version 3.4 will introduce a crossover with Honkai: Star Rail featuring Kafka and Robin, whose stylized character art appeared around the 33-minute mark of the stream. That crossover arrives in late 2026. While those crossover roles won’t land until late November or early December 2026, it’s a parallel step after HoYoverse previously added Pearl to Honkai: Star Rail banners. Earlier announcements also revealed that Zenless Zone Zero characters Astra Yao and Ellen Joe are set to appear in the other title in Version 4.8 [2].

Phoenix and Severian Debut in Version 3.3

Phoenix makes her debut in the first half of Version 3.3 as an S-Rank Fire Anomaly Agent with resilient defensive traits. Her Core Skill, Nirvana, sears targets affected by an Anomaly, which allows subsequent Anomaly damage dealt to those afflicted foes to trigger critical hits during ongoing team skirmishes. She won’t stay down easily. If she takes a fatal blow in battle, her Rebirth trait lets her revive right on the spot with full health. She arrives alongside her signature S-Rank W-Engine, Plume of Rebirth, while Velina Airgrid of the Roscaelifer External Strategy Department returns on a rerun banner with Joyau Dore [1].

The second phase of the patch shifts the spotlight to Severian Lowell, an S-Rank Wind Attack Agent and senior commissioner in New Eridu Public Security. Seth Lowell is his brother. Severian’s Core Skill, Endless Breeze, automatically dodges an incoming blow and triggers an immediate counter strike. Performing successful dodges and specific attacks builds Energy that he spends to unleash chains of continuous slashes against groups of aggressive foes [3].

Severian’s banner arrives alongside his signature S-Rank W-Engine, Incarcerating Grip, while Norma Hollowell returns on the companion rerun banner with Chief Sidekick. Her partner is Chief Sidekick. Players can also purchase new outfits during the patch. Phoenix receives two new outfits bundled at a temporary 30% discount, while Severian’s everyday uniform, Solemnly Impeccable, enters the shop when his Signal Search goes live. Both Agents will also get fresh Trust Events, custom avatars, and dynamic wallpapers [1].

Piloting Combat Mechs in Zenless Zone Zero

One of the biggest gameplay additions in Version 3.3 is a playable mech system woven into the main story missions. High Ambitions Corp inspired the design. Lindverne taps into her Karma Core power, Genesis Reconstruction, to build multiple combat walkers patterned after machines built by High Ambitions Corp. Proxies step into the cockpit to infiltrate enemy installations while disguised, opening up fresh tactical options that blend heavy melee strikes with ranged fire [3].

Piloting these machines gives players the freedom to swap between close-quarters brawling and distance shooting depending on enemy positioning. Each walker supports both modes. Dodging incoming fire or landing an EX Special Attack charges a powerful laser beam that can clear entire clusters of hostile units. Players can also shoot environmental explosives or throw heavy punches to launch large objects across the battlefield to clear pathways [1].

This vehicle combat won’t disappear once players finish the new storyline quests. HoYoverse said that mech gameplay will stay available in future versions, meaning the control setup and puzzle-solving tools will return in later updates. It’s not a temporary gimmick. That decision gives the development team a flexible baseline to build new story set pieces without tossing out custom mechanics after a single chapter [1].

Halloween Events and Seasonal Hollow Trials

To celebrate the Halloween season, shops in Lumina Square are teaming up to present the Night of Supernatural Tricks event. Lumina Square hosts the festival. At the same time, the HIA Club rolls out a VR attraction called Spooky Funhouse Tales, where players drive Trickmobiles through courses to scare off unwanted guests. Clearing these funhouse challenges yields rewards like the Angels of Delusion outfit, a new A-Rank W-Engine, and special Proxy accessories [3].

Several smaller events will run alongside the main festival activities throughout the update cycle. In Cyber Miracle Healer, on Duty!, Proxies help fix Bangboo companions that went wild after accidentally eating toxic chips. Toxic chips caused the breakdown. Another event, Trails of the Hobbling Crow, sends players to investigate who carried out an attack on Crowe, while Repair! Drifting Art asks them to restore paintings from pieces scattered at sea [1].

Hollow explorers also receive a seasonal update inside the permanent Enigma of the Labyrinth challenge mode. Master Devil issues the test. A Devilboo instructor named Master Devil offers a three-round trial that tests squad survival under escalating pressure. Proxies gather Candle Cores during these runs and can sell them to shops managed by in-game friends or Outpost members, letting them compare prices to get the highest return on their loot [3].

Fairy Recommendations and System Updates

Version 3.3 introduces helpful changes to daily squad building through Fairy, the player’s artificial intelligence assistant. Fairy can analyze owned Agent rosters to suggest effective team compositions, tactical advice, and basic operation briefs. Tutorial videos cover select Agents. Proxies can save these recommended lineups directly into their preset configurations with a single click, and dedicated tutorial videos will help newcomers learn character mechanics faster [1].

The update also refines preparation screens for permanent combat challenges by displaying squad synergy ratings and enhancement progress tips. Promotions receive clearer in-game reminders. In addition, the interface clarifies how Inter-Knot Reputation perks work and provides clear reminders when a Proxy is ready for promotion. Players who participate in version check-in events can claim 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons to save for upcoming banners [3].

Starting on October 21, players will also be able to link their game accounts to Discord to show their real-time activity on user profiles. More Discord features arrive later. HoYoverse plans to expand that connection with extra Agent and Bangboo features down the line. With new characters, story mechs, and holiday trials arriving together, the update gives Proxies plenty of reasons to return to New Eridu this October [1].
