Crunchyroll presented a slate of upcoming television series and animated films during its showcase at New York Comic Con on October 8, 2026. The distributor debuted premiere footage for major productions based on video games while sharing licensing updates for webcomics and print manga. Fans following the NYCC anime presentations received launch windows for multiple productions scheduled to air between 2027 and 2028 [1].

Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima Lead NYCC Anime Reveals

Hosts Tim Lyu and Lauren Moore opened the showcase by sharing a sneak peek of Sekiro: No Defeat, an anime adaptation produced by KADOKAWA, Qzil.la, and ARCH. The production features hand-drawn animation over an eight-episode run that will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll starting in January 2027. It’s based on the action video game from FromSoftware, and the early footage showed the lone shinobi moving through snowy courtyards [1].

Crunchyroll also provided a work-in-progress look at Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, an anime produced in collaboration with PlayStation Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The story draws from the multiplayer mode of Sucker Punch’s game, focusing on supernatural battles and warrior legends set in feudal Japan. Animation studio HAYATE is developing the project, which won’t arrive on screens until 2028 [1].

Director Takanobu Mizuno leads the production team for the samurai series with writer Gen Urobuchi from NITRO PLUS, who handles series composition and scripts with Satoshi Maejima. Takashi Okazaki, an Emmy winner in 2026, serves as character designer, Keiji Inai composed the score, and Yoshikazu Iwanami oversees sound design. Voice actors Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu joined the cast, and reporter Sarah said the NYCC anime showcase showed how Sony plans to adapt its game catalog for television audiences [2].

WEBTOON Anime Adaptations Join New York Comic Con Slate

A co-production partnership between HAYATE, LINE Digital Frontier Corporation, and Crunchyroll will bring around 15 webcomics into the NYCC anime slate. Under this agreement, the three partners collaborate from early development to produce titles published through LINE Digital Frontier’s mobile app. Crunchyroll will stream each resulting anime exclusively in select territories, and global viewers can read the digital comics online [1].

Among the newly unveiled co-productions, The Remarried Empress stood out with character art and a special promotional trailer that confirmed its television broadcast for next year. Based on Alphatart’s web novel and the comic by HereLee and SUMPUL, the fantasy romance follows Empress Navier Ellie Trovi as she navigates political betrayals in the royal palace. Animation studio TROYCA is producing the series, and the production team confirmed a voice cast that includes Yōko Hikasa, Ryōhei Kimura, Tomoaki Maeno, and Reina Ueda. The partnership shows how digital publishing platforms can turn serial web stories into television shows without losing the original art style [3].

Two other webcomics earned spotlight trailers at the event. Teenage Mercenary revealed a teaser visual showing its teenage soldier protagonist, while JH’s sports webcomic The Boxer received an official adaptation announcement. The boxing series hasn’t received a premiere date yet, but new Japanese studio breccia, founded by former Kinema Citrus producer Muneki Ogasawara, is animating the series with Korean partner Studio Jemi [3].

Classic Manga and Fantasy Adaptations Expand Television Lineup

Crunchyroll also revealed the first look at EAT-MAN, a television adaptation based on the 1997 manga series. The story follows Bolt Crank, an explorer and mercenary who can consume any metallic item and reproduce it from his hand, and he doesn’t take jobs that clash with his morals. Meanwhile, fans learned more about Kagurabachi, which arrives on Crunchyroll next year following Chihiro Rokuhira’s quest against the Hishaku sorcerer syndicate using the enchanted blade Enten. Voice actors Taihi Kimura and Tomokazu Seki spoke about their roles during convention interviews and explained how the father-son dynamic shapes the revenge story [1, 3].

Fantasy adaptations also gained attention during the NYCC anime showcase. J.C. Staff is producing Magical Buffs: The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized! for next year, featuring music composed by Yūki Hayashi, Luke Standridge, and Asa Taylor. Japanese pop star LiSA performs the anime’s opening theme song, backing a story about support mage Wim Strauss joining the guild Nachtibelle. In addition, Berserk of Gluttony Season 2 previewed Fate Graphite returning to the royal capital as a Holy Knight armed with his black sword Greed [1, 2].

Romantic comedy and drama selections rounded out the television reveals. The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All debuted a trailer helmed by the director behind Horimiya, while the lead visual artist from Oshi no Ko shaped the character art. Mariya Ise and Akari Kitō voice the lead characters in a story about a high schooler who falls for a record store worker who isn’t what she expected. The distributor also showcased Here U Are, which tracks two university students who get off on the wrong foot, and Everyone’s Darling Has a Secret, where an exam error lands student Hizashi Hiruno in remedial classes [1].

Theatrical Screenings and Manga Library Updates for Fall

Theatrical presentations form a core focus of the NYCC anime calendar. To mark its tenth anniversary, sports anime Yuri!!! on ICE heads back to cinemas in the United States and Canada on Monday, October 19 at 7:00 PM local time. The special one-day event will present the first five episodes of the series, showing figure skater Yuri Katsuki training under coach Victor Nikiforov. It’s organized under Crunchyroll Anime Nights to provide a shared big-screen viewing [1].

Feature films will continue into early next year when ufotable’s animated movie Witch on the Holy Night arrives in cinemas on January 29, 2027. Distributed with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film features both English dubbing and Japanese audio with English subtitles. TYPE-MOON’s remastered visual novel will also join the Crunchyroll Game Vault app on iOS and Android next year for Mega Fan subscribers. These theatrical events build on earlier momentum seen in theatrical anime screenings and late September anime releases [1].

Crunchyroll Manga marked its first anniversary in North America by announcing that its catalog will host over 450 titles following an October update. On October 12, new additions include The House of the Nurarihyon, Colori Colore Creare, High Elf with a Long Life, Record Journey, and Strange Pictures. Existing reader favorites such as ATOM: The Beginning and Saint Seiya: Dark Wing will receive fresh chapter updates, and new chapters will keep digital readers connected to ongoing storylines [1].

Convention Panels and Screenings at New York Comic Con

Live events at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center gave fans direct access to creative talent behind current television series. On Friday, October 9, voice actors Aoi Yūki and Takeo Ōtsuka took the stage in Room 409 to talk about The Apothecary Diaries. They recreated key scenes live for convention attendees while discussing their recording work on Mao Mao and Jinshi [1].

On Saturday, October 10, the Empire Stage hosted a fan gathering for Black Clover Season 2. Voice actors Gakuto Kajiwara and Dallas Reid joined attendees for behind-the-scenes stories, a screening, and a live dubbing performance as Asta. That event showed how distributors use on-site convention stages to connect Japanese cast members with North American English dub talent [1].

Screenings extended beyond the Javits Center into cultural venues around the city. Director Atsushi Nishigori presented the U.S. premiere of his three-part anthology film GROTESQQQUE at New York’s Japan Society, telling the audience that the overriding theme was simply “things I like” rather than a rigid narrative formula. At the same time, animation studio WHITE FOX confirmed it’s producing a television adaptation of Daken’s light novel series How I Became King by Eating Monsters for broadcast in 2027. Together with the Crunchyroll announcements, the weekend showed how New York has become a central venue for NYCC anime reveals [3].
