On its Japanese opening day, the Sound Euphonium final movie put fresh footage online: the anime’s staff released a special video for Part 2 through Kyoto Animation’s YouTube channel. Director Taichi Ogawa shared an illustration. Anime News Network reports that Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 2 opened on September 11, 2026, completing the two-film project that began in April. The Hibike Euphonium final movie brings Kumiko Oumae’s school-band story back to cinemas after its television conclusion. [1, 2]

Sound Euphonium Final Movie Reaches Part 2

Kyoto Animation has brought Kumiko Oumae’s story back to theaters after the television anime reached its conclusion in 2024. Part 1 opened on April 24, 2026. Part 2 now completes that theatrical project, with the new promotional video arriving on the same Friday as its Japanese debut. Anime News Network’s Alex Mateo reports both the opening and the video release; the report identifies Kyoto Animation’s YouTube channel among its sources. [1]

The video contains new footage. Kyoto Animation’s special Part 2 promotional video gives the Sound Euphonium final movie an opening-day preview, while Ogawa’s commemorative illustration marks the premiere with a contribution from the director himself. Anime News Network does not identify the individual scenes in its account of the clip. The studio’s accompanying description explains what its team added for the move back to cinema. [1, 2]

Kyoto Animation introduces the project with a promise: “This journey will become our next song.” Hanada supplies the new screenplay. [1]

New Scenes Return to the Band

Jukki Hanada wrote a new screenplay for the Sound Euphonium final movie, and Kyoto Animation says the project includes numerous newly created scenes, refined animation and performances absent from television. Season three concluded in 2024. The film returns to that completed television story, giving the band additional time on a cinema screen. How much material has the team added around the ending? The studio names the kinds of additions without putting a duration on them. [1]

Kyoto Animation highlights performance sequences missing from television, a concrete addition for a series whose high school students devote their days to concert band and whose final season follows Kumiko’s third year. The studio gives no minute count. Its description also promises animation refinements throughout the film, so the production involves work on the existing presentation as well as newly created scenes. Anime News Network quotes those details without supplying a performance list, a runtime comparison or a breakdown of changes between the television and theatrical versions. The special video previews the release, while the complete film carries the new screenplay and the additional band performances described by the studio. [1, 2]

Hanada also oversees the script. Taichi Ogawa and Tatsuya Ishihara lead the directing team, bringing their long involvement with the anime to the Sound Euphonium final movie. The credits then reach beyond the animation studio to the composer and a music college, connecting the production to the concert band at the center of Kumiko’s school life. [1]

Ogawa Leads the Returning Ensemble

Taichi Ogawa directs the film. Tatsuya Ishihara serves as chief director. Kyoto Animation identifies both as longtime contributors to the series, with Jukki Hanada overseeing and writing the screenplay for this concluding theatrical project. Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda receive character-design credits. Kazumi Ikeda also serves as chief animation director, taking a second credited role in the production as the studio refines the animation and adds scenes. [1]

Akito Matsuda composes the music. The credits name Lantis and Heart Company for music and Senzoku Gakuen College of Music for music cooperation, placing a named music institution within the production of a story about students devoted to concert band. Kyoto Animation’s emphasis on additional performances makes those music credits especially relevant to the theatrical project, although the report gives no new track list.

Tomoyo Kurosawa voices Kumiko Oumae. Chika Anzai plays Reina Kousaka, Ayaka Asai plays Hazuki Kato and Moe Toyota plays Sapphire Kawashima; Haruka Tomatsu joins the credited cast as Mayu Kuroe. Haruki Ishiya voices Shuuichi Tsukamoto, Sora Amamiya plays Kanade Hisaishi and Takahiro Sakurai plays Noboru Taki. The ensemble stretches further, including Ayaka Ohashi as Tsubame Kamaya, Ayaka Nanase as Mirei Suzuki and Misaki Kuno as Satsuki Suzuki. Their characters belong to a screen history that began well before the final movie.

Kumiko’s School Years Set the Order

Sound! Euphonium follows high school students devoted to concert band, with Kumiko’s progression through school organizing the later installments and leading into the story’s final television season. The first season premiered in April 2015. It ran for 13 episodes. Season two followed in October 2016. The third season arrived in April 2024 to adapt Kumiko’s third year; all three seasons contain 13 episodes, bringing the television total to 39 episodes. [1]

The films sit between and around those seasons. An April 2016 flashback film revisited the first series, while the September 2017 compilation Todoketai Melody followed the second. April 2018 brought Liz and the Blue Bird, centered on Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki. A year later, Our Promise: A Brand New Day followed Kumiko as a second-year student. Kyoto Animation then released Ensemble Contest Arc in August 2023, ahead of season three’s move into her final school year.

For release-order viewing, that chronology places the Sound Euphonium final movie after season three, with Part 1 before Part 2. Counting both 2026 installments, the report lists seven theatrical releases, including the two early recap films and Ensemble Contest Arc. A film’s place in a wider story also informs PerEXP Teamworks’ separate guide to Dune: Part Two’s story and lore; here, Kumiko’s school years provide the clearest organizing thread.

Japan’s Opening Leaves Overseas Dates Open

Japanese theaters are the confirmed release setting in Anime News Network’s September 11 report. The online release concerns the promotional video. The report announces no full-film streaming service, overseas theatrical date or home-video schedule for Part 2, leaving the next release details outside Japan dependent on a distribution announcement. Part 1 opened on April 24. The September premiere now completes the project’s Japanese theatrical rollout, but the source supplies no corresponding dates for international cinemas. [1, 2]

Crunchyroll streamed season three during its Japanese broadcast. Anime News Network lists North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS among those territories, but that historical television arrangement does not establish distribution for the 2026 films. The report also leaves the final movie’s runtime unspecified. For now, the concrete overseas-facing material is the special video; a distributor, a territory and a date remain the details needed for an international film release.
