Phantom Blade Zero Sales Top 4 Million Copies in Three Days

S-Game announced that action RPG Phantom Blade Zero sold over four million copies in its first 72 hours across PC and PlayStation 5, reaching a concurrent peak of 833,921 players on Steam.

Chinese developer S-Game announced on Monday that Phantom Blade Zero sales passed four million copies within 72 hours of launch on PC and PlayStation 5 storefronts [1]. The action role-playing game arrived on October 29, 2026, drawing strong interest across global digital platforms without an official breakdown between systems [8]. The four-million count includes digital purchases on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Tencent WeGame client in China, marking a fast start for the independent Beijing team founded by Liang Qiwei [2].

S-Game shared the sales figures on social media on Monday, thanking players who jumped into the game during its opening weekend [1]. The studio wrote on X: “Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!” [2] While the developer didn’t separate console copies from computer downloads, the game reached players on both PlayStation 5 and PC from day one [8].

Storefronts in Asia accounted for a major share of total purchases alongside western PC downloads, reflecting trends tracked before the release date. Industry tracking firm Alinea Analytics found that nearly two-thirds of pre-launch sales came from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, showing how strongly regional interest lifted the project into launch day [5]. S-Game previously developed the Rainblood series, but it spent several years moving into high-end production with Unreal Engine 5 to reach wider audiences [1].

Review scores matched the opening commercial pace, with reviews praising its combat and weapon variety across international gaming outlets. Metacritic registered an average score of 88 on PC and 87 on PlayStation 5, while user ratings on the PlayStation Store reached 4.71 out of 5. The opening performance put the release at about 40 percent of the three-day pace set by Black Myth: Wukong, which sold 10 million units in August 2024 [6].

Concurrent Records on Steam

On Valve’s PC marketplace, the game pulled in more than 431,000 concurrent players on its first day before activity jumped sharply on the weekend. Peak traffic arrived on Sunday, November 1, when concurrent player counts climbed to 833,921 players according to SteamDB data [2]. That peak placed the title third overall in Steam’s most-played charts, behind only multiplayer staples Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 [3].

That turnout placed S-Game’s debut above many of the largest PC releases launched throughout 2026. The peak cleared the player records of multiplayer titles like Battlefield 6 and Marvel Rivals, and it passed the launch peaks of major single-player releases including Forza Horizon 6, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Ace Combat 8 [2]. PCGamesN writer Tom Hopkins pointed out that the count reached 10 times the peak of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, another action release from this year. Describing the game in his review, Hopkins wrote: “Phantom Blade Zero is a stunning action RPG that gives the best of all time a run for their money. Phenomenal combat, a beautiful world, and a confidently original story wrapped up in a package that’s an intricately designed Metroidvania at heart.” [3]

Player engagement stayed high even during quiet daylight hours across western regions. Server numbers hovered near 400,000 active users at slower points of the day, proving that player retention didn’t collapse after the initial surge [4]. High engagement helped the title lead Steam’s global revenue charts over the weekend, finishing ahead of Modern Warfare 4, Aion 2, and the hit indie sim Probably Stolen [5].

Pre-Launch Demand Behind Phantom Blade Zero Sales

Early interest on PC had been building for months before the final release arrived in stores. Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott estimated that Phantom Blade Zero sales topped 300,000 digital copies on Steam just days after pre-orders opened in August. Those early orders generated about $14.5 million in revenue while pushing the title to the top of Steam’s global wishlist charts with 1.6 million users [6].

By the final week of October, Elliott estimated total pre-orders had crossed one million copies across Steam, PlayStation 5, and WeGame [5]. That pre-launch volume reached about 73 percent of the pace set by Black Myth: Wukong, while running more than six times ahead of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Strong advance bookings gave the studio stability before critics published their verdicts [6].

PC users had already cleared disk space after studying the Phantom Blade Zero preload storage requirements announced by the studio. Eurogamer critic Emma Kent praised the visual detail and movement flow, but she found some combat encounters uneven during later boss battles. Kent wrote: “This game is exceptional in so many areas – the animations, the beautiful environments – and when the combat works, the sense of flow is incredible. Then you walk into a boss battle and feel all that power fade, like you’re waiting your turn to get hits in with a wooden sword.” [2]

Combat Systems in the Phantom World

The story unfolds in a fantasy universe shaped by wuxia traditions, blending martial swordplay with mechanical limbs, dark fantasy, and body modifications [7]. S-Game calls this visual style KungfuPunk, placing players in control of an elite operative named Soul [1]. Soul is framed for killing the leader of a secretive group called The Order, leaving him hunted by his former allies. He sustains a deadly chest wound, but a healer revives him with only 66 days left to find the real conspirators [8].

Combat design prioritizes swift parries and weapon combos, drawing mechanical roots from action classics like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, and Sekiro [1]. The game provides more than 30 primary weapons alongside off-hand tools known as Phantom Edges that grant special tactical options. Players can use an item called the Reforging Talisman, which resets any weapon back to base level and refunds all upgrade components so people can try new weapons freely [7].

Voice actor Roger Craig Smith plays Soul in the English cast, joined by Maggie Robertson as Mu Xiaokui. Action cinema icon Donnie Yen served as a key creative consultant on the game, while also playing Soul’s father, Mó Yuan, through complete facial and motion capture. IGN reviewer Kirk McKeand gave the game a 9 out of 10 score, writing: “Phantom Blade Zero is an unbelievably smooth action game filled with memorable boss fights, compelling combat, and limitless swagger.” [5]

Edition Pricing and Physical Release Plans

For customers looking to buy the game today, S-Game offers two digital packages on PC and console marketplaces. The standard digital edition costs $59.99, while the Deluxe Edition sells for $69.99 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the PlayStation Store. Both digital bundles include the complete story campaign without locking gameplay areas behind separate purchases [8].

The game features three separate difficulty modes that alter how encounters play out for newcomers and veteran players alike. Wayfarer mode offers a forgiving experience focused on cinematic storytelling, whereas Hellwalker mode introduces demanding timing windows and combo inputs. An optional 66 Days mode connects Soul’s narrative timer directly to gameplay, where each combat defeat drains valuable days and eventually triggers permanent death [7].

Boxed disc collectors will have to wait longer to place the game on their shelves, as physical copies aren’t ready yet. S-Game said physical PlayStation 5 editions won’t arrive until 2027, when the studio plans to release Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate boxed packages [8]. Until those boxed discs hit retail stores, digital sales across Steam and console platforms will carry the studio’s debut through the coming year [6].
