Japan’s famous all-female theater company Takarazuka Revue announced on October 30, 2026, that its Flower Troupe will produce a new Takarazuka Revue musical adaptation of the romantic fantasy series My Happy Marriage for the 2027 theatrical season. The production brings the story of Miyo Saimori and Kiyoka Kudou to live audiences under the direction of Daisuke Tabuchi [2]. Both the stage announcement and its companion revue show trended on social media in Japan within hours of the public reveal [3].

Staging the Takarazuka Revue Musical

The upcoming stage show draws directly from the light novel series created by author Akumi Agitogi and illustrator Tsukiho Tsukioka, which debuted in January 2019 under Kadokawa’s Fujimi L Bunko imprint. Daisuke Tabuchi will write the script and handle staging, adapting the early chapters that chronicle how two traumatized individuals gradually learn to trust each other. Kadokawa and the theater company revealed the project together in public announcements as preparations move forward for summer 2027. The production brings the story onto the Japanese musical theater stage for the first time, presenting the fantasy narrative through live orchestral accompaniment, dramatic solos, and ensemble choreography [2].

Flower Troupe top star Sea Towaki takes on the lead role of Kiyoka Kudou, the gifted military commander rumored to be cold and merciless toward prospective suitors. Top musumeyaku Misaki Hoshizora stars opposite her as Miyo Saimori, portraying an abused young woman stripped of status by her family [1].

Online engagement surged after the series’ official X account, @watashino_info, shared the promotional announcement graphic. The post circulated widely among fans who tracked the franchise through its anime broadcast run. Both the main musical and its paired revue production became trending search topics on Japanese social feeds during the final weekend of October [3].

Performance Schedule for 2027

The musical begins its schedule in Hyōgo Prefecture before traveling east to the capital. Performances at the Takarazuka Grand Theater will run from June 26 to August 8, 2027, offering seven consecutive weeks of summer staging. General ticket sales open on Saturday, June 5, 2027 [2].

Following the Grand Theater run, the entire troupe relocates to the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater for its second performance window. The Tokyo engagement opens on Saturday, August 28, and runs through Sunday, October 10, 2027, with general ticket sales scheduled to open on Sunday, August 1, 2027 [2]. Splitting dates between Hyōgo and the capital allows the company to reach both regional and metropolitan theatergoers during prime vacation months. Both venues feature automated orchestra pits and large rotating stages designed specifically for grand musical revues [4].

Audiences at the opening Hyōgo run will also witness an important company transition. Members of the Takarazuka Revue’s 113th graduating class are scheduled to make their official stage debut during these Grand Theater dates, joining Flower Troupe cast members for their first professional theater appearance [2].

Supernatural Setting and Noble Families

The fictional world of the story mirrors Japan’s Meiji and Taisho periods, combining aristocratic family politics with fantasy elements. In this alternate history, spirits and bizarre beings threaten public peace, prompting noble families to maintain security for the imperial court through hereditary gifts known as inō-sha (special abilities). Miyo Saimori was born into one of these prestigious lineages but grew up without showing any apparent power. Viewed as useless by her abusive stepmother and half-sister Kaya, she was forced into menial labor and stripped of self-worth before her family arranged her marriage to Kiyoka Kudou, a wealthy commander whose fearsome reputation had driven every previous fiancée to flee within three days [1].

Miyo expected harsh rejection upon arriving at the Kudou residence, but she soon discovered that her quiet fiancé possessed deep empathy. Kiyoka noticed the harsh neglect and emotional scars left by her upbringing, offering her the patience and basic respect she had never received from her relatives. As Yen Press wrote in its official summary, “With no home to return to, Miyo slowly starts to open her heart to her cold and pale husband-to-be, despite their rocky introduction… This might just be her chance at finding true love and happiness.” That gradual emotional thaw provides the foundation for the stage show’s musical duets [1].

Romantic drama soon gives way to political conflict as hidden facts about Miyo’s maternal lineage surface. Her mother belonged to the secretive Usuba family, whose mental abilities can alter thoughts and emotions. When rival factions attempt to exploit those powers, Kiyoka deploys his military unit and supernatural abilities to protect her from court conspiracies [2].

Flower Troupe with Manhattan Follies

The musical runs on a double bill with a separate performance titled MANHATTAN FOLLIES -Seize The Day-. Written and directed by Kosaku Noguchi, the companion piece serves as the eighth entry in Takarazuka’s Spectacular series. The show arrives during the 100th anniversary of the company’s Western-style revue format, which first entertained Japanese audiences in 1927 [2].

The companion revue opens in 2020 on Broadway’s 42nd Street, where an unemployed musical actor dances alone on a deserted avenue during pandemic shutdowns. When the setting sun pierces the Manhattan street grid during the sunset phenomenon known as Manhattanhenge, golden light sends the performer one hundred years into the past. Arriving in 1920s New York (the Roaring Twenties), the young dancer experiences the energy of Broadway’s theater district at its cultural peak. The production weaves historic jazz melodies, fast-paced Charleston routines, and towering skyscraper set pieces to recreate the vibrant atmosphere of the American jazz age [2].

Combining a Japanese period drama with an American jazz revue displays Takarazuka’s performance flexibility. The company casts only women, assigning performers to male roles (otokoyaku) or female roles (musumeyaku). Each Takarazuka Revue musical relies on this century-old acting system, giving Sea Towaki and Misaki Hoshizora complementary roles across both halves of the program [4].

My Happy Marriage as a Takarazuka Revue Musical

The new stage project caps years of audience growth in light novels and manga. After launching under Kadokawa’s Fujimi L Bunko imprint in January 2019, the series gained a manga adaptation illustrated by Rito Kohsaka on Square Enix’s Gangan Online platform [5]. Kadokawa reported that total circulation has surpassed 10 million copies [3].

Screen adaptations laid the groundwork for large-scale stage interest. A live-action film debuted in Japanese theaters in March 2023, earning the top box office spot during its opening weekend by selling 479,700 tickets for 654 million yen (about $4.97 million) over three days. Strong ticket sales for the film proved that general moviegoers embraced the romance alongside established readers. Kinema Citrus produced a 12-episode anime series that aired in July 2023, while Netflix carried the show to international subscribers. Kadokawa bundled an original video animation titled Shiawase no Katachi with novel volume eight in March 2024, streaming it globally on Good Couples Day in November 2024 [1].

Television broadcasts grew in January 2025 with a second season carried by Tokyo MX, BS11, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, TV Aichi, and AT-X with simultaneous Netflix streaming. A three-episode television special aired on TV Tokyo on October 25, 2026, streaming online later that evening [1]. This steady release schedule kept audiences invested in the characters as theater preparations began. Staging My Happy Marriage as a Takarazuka Revue musical gives the fantasy romance a grand theatrical platform, bringing Towaki and Hoshizora before thousands of live theatergoers in Hyōgo and Tokyo next summer [3].
