The Sanctuary of Ink Update Expands Arknights: Endfield

Arknights: Endfield receives its Sanctuary of Ink update on October 15, adding new Operators, inn management, and a Steam PC release.

Global publisher GRYPHLINE and developer Mountain Contour will launch the Sanctuary of Ink update for Arknights: Endfield on October 15, 2026, and will release the tactical RPG on Steam the same day [2]. The free update brings the Windows edition to Valve’s platform with full cross-platform saves, letting players continue their adventures on Talos-II across phones, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. Cross-play progression works right away [1]. It’s a major release that debuts a fresh story chapter, two playable Operators, and rural base tasks to show how future Arknights: Endfield versions will grow [2].

Sanctuary of Ink Update Unveils Si and Mountain Hazards

The story in Sanctuary of Ink takes the Endministrator into Si’s Painting, an isolated realm crafted by the Feranmut Proxy Si [2]. Following an injury, the protagonist travels to Yuanyuan Manor Inn to rest among the painted peaks [4]. Strange events in the nearby mountains soon pull the pair into an unresolved mystery that stretches back ten years into the Endministrator’s past. It isn’t just a quiet retreat, because mysterious phenomena across the highlands force the travelers to confront hostile beasts formed from painted objects [2].

Travel inside the scroll relies on Si’s Miracle Brush, an ability that lets players alter parts of the painted scenery to solve pathfinding obstacles [2]. When scouting parties encounter deep chasms between jagged mountain cliffs, drawing with the Miracle Brush prompts an aerial bridge to materialize across the open drop, creating a sturdy crossing that lets players bypass broken rock formations. “Try using Si’s ‘Miracle Brush.’ With a gentle stroke across the gap between the cliffs, a bridge rises into the air. Besides, the power of this brush goes far beyond simply opening the way. Every stroke made with it quietly changes the daily lives of the creatures within the painted world, bringing warmth and life back to this long-silent scroll,” said AJ, narrative designer of Arknights: Endfield. Hostile creatures also guard the mountain routes, presenting a hard trial that awaits players at the end of their trek into the scroll [4].

The brush alters painted mountain terrain [4]. These mechanics turn map scouting into an interactive puzzle, encouraging players to look for hidden paths across cliffs and restore broken routes that once connected old shrines [1]. It’s an imaginative setting that blends brushwork with tactical movement, showing how future Arknights: Endfield versions will debut distinct regions outside standard factory zones [4].

Playable Operators Si and Argent Flow Join the Roster

Players can recruit Si as a playable Operator through the update’s first character banner. During combat, the innkeeper relies on her Inksoul skill to pull a spectral copy of a foe onto the field. Damage and status effects landed on this Inksoul transfer back to the original enemy, which lets squads keep attacking even when a boss retreats outside normal combat range. Damage on the clone hits the boss. Her skills can also interrupt charging attacks and provide helpful support for Cryo and Heat teammates during tough fights [2].

The second newcomer is Argent Flow, an old acquaintance of the Endministrator who pairs sword and spear techniques with mounted combat. Nuli serves as his combat mount. He rides into battle atop the warhorse Nuli, charging forward before leaping into the air to strike targets with an aerial blow during his ultimate skill. A story event takes players through painted memories that reveal the past behind his calm, polite demeanor [4]. Both recruits arrive through limited banners. They will become available through successive recruitment events as the update rolls out on all platforms [2].

Adding two distinct combat styles gives players fresh choices when building four-person squads. By combining sword and spear maneuvers with mounted charges, Argent Flow can build forward momentum during skirmishes before launching into the air to unleash a punishing finishing strike against entrenched targets [4]. Si anchors evasive enemies with Inksoul from afar, while Argent Flow acts as a fast frontline striker who breaks up enemy lines [2]. Mastering their paired skills will help teams clear the tougher waves waiting in the new update [4].

Tactical Modifiers in Indigo Experimental Operation

Tough battle trials return through Indigo Experimental Operation, which revives the franchise’s popular Contingency Contract mode. The mode offers selectable handicaps that pair combat buffs with harsh tactical limits. Under one selectable rule, combo strikes deal heavier damage, but the party loses access to further combo abilities for a short cooldown period after every couple of casts. Combos stop after two triggers [2]. Players can’t simply rely on automated skill spamming when tight timing windows dictate success [4].

For the first time in the game, selected rules will also give enemies extra attack patterns [2]. These fresh behaviors force players to learn unfamiliar enemy tells and adjust defensive positioning during combat [4]. Mountain Contour also rebuilt the challenge menu so that custom battle rules are much simpler to pick, test, and reuse between runs [2]. That helps strategists spend less time in menus and more time refining team balance [4].

The mode rewards careful planning and tactical flexibility rather than raw character stats alone [4]. By letting players tailor challenge settings to their own roster strengths, the system welcomes both casual players seeking basic clear rewards and veteran players chasing high risk scores [2]. Success demands understanding how enemy attack patterns interact with specific squad buffs on the field [4].

Countryside Inn Management at Yuanyuan Manor

Away from battlefield trials, players can step away from exploration to run a countryside inn in Yuanyuan’s Blazing Stoves. This lifestyle activity involves growing crops, raising animals, and cooking meals for visiting guests. Earnings collected from hungry visitors go toward expanding the farm and upgrading the inn’s buildings [2]. Different themes bring extra cooking recipes, so innkeepers have more dishes to serve [4].

Farm work doesn’t become a slow grind thanks to the Auto-Farmer, an automated tool that helps with regular sowing and harvesting routines [4]. As players progress further through the story, this automated farming tool will also unlock inside the farming area of Wuling. Wuling unlocks later in the campaign [2]. This provides players with a relaxing domestic loop before new Arknights: Endfield versions open up unfamiliar lands [4].

The inn management loop creates a satisfying rhythm that feeds back into exploration prep [2]. Cooking hearty dishes provides valuable food buffs that party members can eat before heading into hazardous zones [4]. Players can balance their time between farm plots, kitchen stoves, and tactical excursions, creating a varied daily routine within Yuanyuan Manor Inn [2].

Steam Launch Expands Arknights: Endfield Versions

The October 15 release marks the official arrival of Arknights: Endfield on Steam, expanding its PC access beyond the official launcher and Epic Games Store. PC players gain another storefront option alongside existing editions on PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. The timing coincides with other PC debuts this month, such as Escape from Playtime entering Steam early access during October [2]. With full cross-play progression supported on launch day, existing players won’t lose their account progress or unlocked items when moving to Steam. Steam downloads require no extra fee [1].

Several system tweaks will launch alongside the new content. Players can now save gear loadouts, enjoy sharper mouse aiming during combat, and set custom priority rules for combo skills that trigger at the same time. Field tools can also be placed using supplies stored in the depot without carrying materials in personal bags. Backpack space no longer limits building. While titles like Bandai Namco shifting Synduality: Echo of Ada to offline play highlight different paths for service games, Endfield keeps building on its connected features [2].

The update’s soundtrack features an eclectic musical palette shaped by Eastern fantasy themes, blending elements of color bass, afrobeat, and UK garage beats. Composer Zhai Jinyan from Black Myth: Wukong and composer Ludvig Forssell from Death Stranding joined Chinese electronic act 8:48 and returning musician Crywolf to craft the game’s new soundscape [2]. The score helps upcoming Arknights: Endfield versions welcome new players to Talos-II [1].
