Japanese mystery writer Mikito Chinen saw his horror novel Etsuran Genkin Ryōki Satsujin-han no Seishin Kantei Hōkoku-sho launch a serialized manga version on Comic Action following its debut on September 25. The release brings the medical author’s dark courtroom story into comic panels after news outlet Natalie reported on the fresh digital comic [1]. It arrives during an active autumn stretch of Japanese news that also includes TV projects for crime saga Manshuu Ahen Squad and school mystery Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note [2]. Fans won’t have to wait for new pages as chapters roll out online.

Mikito Chinen Novel Enters Manga Format

The manga version of Etsuran Genkin Ryōki Satsujin-han no Seishin Kantei Hōkoku-sho adapts Mikito Chinen’s casefiles about graphic murder cases. Chinen built his name on stories that mix clinic medicine with tense mystery plots, translating authentic hospital protocols and diagnostic interviews into visual sequences that track a suspect’s fractured state of mind [1]. Readers often ask whether the author works as a real medical doctor. His clinical training shapes each interview.

Website Natalie covered the launch as Comic Action put up the opening chapter for online readers, bringing to life a Japanese title that warns readers against viewing the psychiatric appraisal records of a bizarre murderer [1]. Chinen built the book around interviews and cold hospital notes that ask the reader to judge legal sanity. While many mystery books lean on ghost stories, Chinen roots his horror in clinical checks and hospital tests that feel chillingly real.

Readers got free access to the first chapter on Comic Action’s web reader on the launch date. The digital site hosts many crime books. Reading online lets the artist draw long talk scenes with open page space that wouldn’t fit in a monthly print book, allowing the serial to develop intricate forensic dialogues between physicians and suspects across multiple pages. Early readers on Japanese social media said the close-up art of the doctor during tense patient talks gave the book its chilling mood [1].

Manshuu Ahen Squad Secures Television Anime Project

While Chinen’s book stepped into a comic run, Pony Canyon announced an anime project for Tsukasa Monma and Shikako’s crime manga Manshuu Ahen Squad on Monday. The company opened an official website and said animation work is underway. The news expands the dark crime comic after years of steady reader support in Japanese digital shops and bookstores [2]. The staff haven’t set a TV air date yet.

Monma and artist Shikako began running the crime story on Kodansha’s Comic Days app in April 2020 before moving it to Weekly Young Magazine in September 2021. The title took a break after Shikako passed away in November 2025. Following the late artist’s wishes, the comic resumed on October 5 with artist Tsurushima stepping in as the new illustrator [2]. The 22nd volume shipped in November 2025.

The manga boasts over 3 million copies in print and digital formats in Japan. Kodansha USA picked up the English rights, offering translated chapters on its K Manga app since May 2023. Its 14th English book arrived on September 8, while volume 15 is set for a November 10 debut [2]. The work also earned industry nods, picking up award nominations in the General division of the 47th Kodansha Manga Awards as well as the 70th Shogakukan Manga Awards competition across Japanese publishing circles.

Historical Crime and Opium Trade in Manchukuo

The story of Manshuu Ahen Squad takes place in 1937 within Manchukuo, the puppet state set up in northeastern China under Japanese rule. The opening sets a bleak tone right away with an unforgiving line: “Here in Manchuria, the cheapest thing you’ll find is a person’s life.” Main character Isamu Higata arrives to serve as an ordinary soldier in its standing army [2]. His military career ends early after a battle wound leaves him blind in his right eye.

After losing his eye, officers banish Isamu to a farm post where commanders beat and mock him every day. The wounded soldier works long hours until he finds a poppy patch hidden in a dusty field corner. He knows the crop provides the base materials needed to make illicit opium. Needing cash to pay for care for his sick mother, Isamu chooses to produce the illicit drug to fund her medical treatment [2]. That single move pulls his life into a dark criminal ring.

Isamu’s drug business pulls him into close contact with gangsters, dirty soldiers, and rival smugglers fighting over the opium trade. Monma’s script shows how hard times push normal people into dark moral choices when survival is at stake. The comic doesn’t look away from the ugly side of the black market, showing street deals and quiet payoffs in detail [2]. That raw tone contrasts with usual youth battle comics, giving the Pony Canyon anime project a real crime-story feel that sets it apart from fantasy series.

Mikito Chinen Mysteries Contrast School Science Fiction

The dark mood in Mikito Chinen’s stories stands apart from the lighter school mysteries in Takuma Sakai’s book series Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note. The Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival Online 2026 revealed a TV anime for Sakai’s book on Saturday, sharing a promo clip during the live stream. Sakai, who also wrote Buta no Liver wa Kanetsu Shiro, teamed up with artist Asagi Toosaka to craft a mystery set at Tsuna Nagai High School [3]. Earlier reports covered how The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma anime adaptation was first announced to readers.

The plot follows first-year student Shou Izuta, who arrives at Tsuna Nagai High School wanting to revive the school’s old Biology Club. Izuta teams up with classmate Rio Iwama and other club friends to crack odd campus riddles. Instead of using magic like the divine fights in The Failure at God School, the club uses logic and school science tests to solve strange events [3]. Their first case involves finding a legendary match-making cherry tree that vanished from the school yard overnight.

Kadokawa first put out the book under its Dengeki Bunko label in November 2024, with art by Asagi Toosaka of Seiken Gakuin no Makentsukai. Kadokawa released the third book on January 9 and set volume four for an October 9 rollout. Artist Lap Tsutsumi also launched an ongoing manga titled Yotte, Hatsukoi wa Shoumei sareta. Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note in Comic Dengeki Daioh “g” magazine on April 27 [3]. Kadokawa will release the manga’s first book on October 27.

Kadokawa Autumn Festival Reveals New Production Slates

The anime news for Sakai’s book came during the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival Online 2026, streamed live by ABEMA. News site Dengeki Online said author Takuma Sakai and artist Asagi Toosaka posted comments and celebratory art for the stream [4]. The book has found a warm reception among light novel readers across Japan, ranking third in the new work paperback category and sixth in the overall paperback rankings of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi 2026 guidebook [3].

The festival timetable included updates for multiple book franchises during Saturday afternoon. The show opened at 16:10 with Hime Kishi-sama no Himo, the 28th Dengeki Novel Prize Grand Prize winner set for a January 2027 TV debut with voice actors Junichi Suwabe and Mikako Komatsu. Later segments brought author Isuna Hasekura and artist Juu Ayakura to discuss season two of Ookami to Koushinryou, while author Hajime Kamoshida spoke about the Seishun Buta Yarou anime film ahead of its October 16 screening [4]. Game producers also noted the Sword Art Online game line passing 10 million sales.

The event wrapped up with news for Yuusha Kei ni Shosu season two, the October TV debut of Toaru Anbu no Shoujo Kyousei, and an anime reveal for Reki Kawahara’s Demon’s Crest [4]. Paired with Mikito Chinen’s horror launch on Comic Action and Pony Canyon’s anime reveal for Manshuu Ahen Squad, these projects show a busy autumn for Japanese comics and novels [1]. Readers can follow new air dates, casting picks, and book release days as studios ready their lineups for 2026 and 2027.
