Sony Interactive Entertainment and French developer Oh BiBi announced that Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble will end development before its planned global launch. The mobile arena shooter will leave digital storefronts on November 21, 2026, and its online servers will shut down permanently on May 1, 2027. Players who already installed the application on iOS or Android devices can continue playing matches through the remaining seasons, but all in-app transactions stopped when the final update rolled out on November 6 [1].
Why Ranger Rumble Ended in Soft Launch
Paris-based game studio Oh BiBi developed the project in partnership with series creator Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios. The teams aimed to translate the fast-paced gunplay of the console franchise into a competitive multiplayer format for mobile phones and tablets. The production entered an early testing phase in November 2025 [3]. During that period, early builds appeared on regional storefronts to evaluate gameplay balance before publishers committed to a worldwide rollout.
That soft launch covered a limited group of countries, beginning with Canada and the United Kingdom before expanding to France, Nordic territories (Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark), and Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia and the Philippines. While regional audiences provided balance feedback during those trial periods, the title never moved beyond its test status to reach players in North America, mainland Europe, or Japan. As recently as July, a post on the official PlayStation blog stated that the game was gearing up for global launch following a successful testing phase. Neither Sony nor Oh BiBi provided a detailed reason for abandoning those launch plans, simply noting on the game’s website that they made the difficult decision to cease development [5]. The move leaves the unfinished build as the only version players will ever experience.
In their public farewell note, the developers expressed gratitude toward the small player base that participated in the soft-launch tests over the past year. “On behalf of the dev team and everyone helping to make the game, thanks to our amazing community for all your support, especially to those who have spent time playing, sharing feedback, and helping shape Ranger Rumble throughout its development,” the studio said. No further content updates will follow [2].

Store Delisting and Purchase Cutoffs
The application will be removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play on November 21, 2026. Once that delisting takes place, new users will no longer be able to find or download the title. However, anyone who already downloaded the software can keep the game on their device and continue logging into online sessions until next spring [1].
The final software patch arrived on November 6 and disabled all in-app monetization. Players can no longer buy virtual currency packages or cosmetic bundles with real money. The update also delivered pending pre-registration rewards to accounts that had signed up during earlier promotional campaigns [6].
Storefront delisting forms a standard procedure when publishers retire online titles. Pulling the store page prevents newcomers from joining a game that will soon shut down. The six-month window between delisting in November and the final server shutdown in May gives existing participants ample time to finish remaining matches and claim unlocked rewards [4].

How Active Servers Function Until May
The game is designed as a fast-paced multiplayer platformer arena shooter set within the colorful world of the Ratchet & Clank franchise. Matches place contestants in floating arenas where they leap between structures, grind along overhead rails, and blast rivals with strange weapons on a quest to become a galactic ranger. Sony confirmed that existing battle modes, multiplayer matchmaking lobbies, and competitive features will remain open until the closure date [4].
Seasonal progression will also continue operating for the remainder of the game’s lifespan. The developers confirmed that planned Qwark Pass seasons will run consecutively right up to May 1, 2027. To compensate players for the shutdown, the team made the premium Super Pass tier free for all active users, allowing everyone to unlock character costumes, visual skins, and weapon modifications simply by completing matches [1].
The arena shooter relies fully on live network connectivity for matchmaking and asset handling. Because of that server architecture, it contains no offline campaign or single-player options. Once Sony switches off the server infrastructure on May 1, 2027, the application will shut down completely, leaving the software unplayable on all phones [2].

Refund Policy and Data Wipes
Players seeking refunds for past in-game purchases can’t resolve their claims through the game client. In an official support FAQ, the developers explained that neither Sony nor Oh BiBi processes transaction refunds directly. Instead, users must submit refund requests through customer support at the Apple App Store or Google Play, where standard digital storefront guidelines and local consumer protection laws determine eligibility [3].
Account progress and unlocked items will not carry over anywhere else. When servers close on May 1, 2027, the studio will execute a complete data wipe of all player profiles, permanently deleting every collected character, unlocked cosmetic, and currency balance [6].
Community staff encouraged active participants to spend remaining balances before May. Players can still use existing currency reserves to unlock items and cosmetic rewards in the in-game shop throughout the remaining Qwark Pass seasons. Any currency that remains unspent at the moment of server shutdown will be permanently erased from the network database, leaving players with no way to recover their lost funds after May [4].

PlayStation Strategy Around Ranger Rumble
The mobile arena title was the first new software release under the franchise name since Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart arrived in June 2021 on PlayStation 5 and later on PC. Primary franchise creator Insomniac Games has largely dedicated its development capacity to superhero adaptations, releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023 and directing production toward Marvel’s Wolverine. Licensing the property to Oh BiBi allowed Sony to experiment in the smartphone market without diverting its flagship internal studio away from major console projects. That licensing deal gave the publisher a presence on mobile storefronts while keeping core development teams focused on high-end hardware [1].
The cancellation comes as Sony Interactive Entertainment pulls back from several live-service initiatives across its gaming business. Following the abrupt closure of Concord in 2024, the company has applied stricter standards to multiplayer projects that fail to build sustainable player numbers. Maintaining an active live-service game demands continuous engineering upkeep and regular updates, making prolonged soft launches difficult to sustain when early metrics fall short of internal expectations [2].
Mobile adaptations of established console series frequently encounter stiff resistance in crowded digital app stores. While established giants like Fortnite maintain global attention through major entertainment crossovers, mid-tier multiplayer spin-offs often face quick cancellation before reaching a worldwide release. By concluding the test phase early, Sony limits further development expenditures and refocuses its mobile efforts on other opportunities within its broader catalog [4].
