Studios Sunrise and SHAFT released the main trailer for the Fool Night anime adaptation, locking in a worldwide Netflix premiere date for November 26, 2026. All episodes will arrive on the streaming platform at once, so fans can watch Kasumi Yasuda’s dark story without weekly broadcast delays across different global territories. The preview reveals the opening and ending theme songs while introducing five cast members who join the grim story [1].
Watching the Fool Night Anime on Netflix
Netflix will stream the entire series in all regions starting on November 26, 2026. Subscribers get every episode on day one. A simultaneous global launch allows international viewers to experience the complete mystery at their own pace without waiting for localized television broadcasts to air overseas [1].
Sunrise and SHAFT formed their first joint venture for the adaptation, pairing two veteran animation studios with distinct artistic habits on a single long-form television production. Sunrise built its name on sci-fi mecha hits and grand set pieces, but SHAFT is famous for sharp cuts, offbeat angles, and bold visual frames. Putting both teams on Kasumi Yasuda’s manga creates a striking look that balances gritty city decay with delicate plant life [2].
The team also shared an English dub trailer next to the Japanese cut so global fans could sample the voices early. A new poster shows Toshiro Kamiya standing under cold, cloudy skies. The artwork establishes the grim mood of the story, showing how endless cold and bad air wear down the people living in this crumbling city [2].

Voice Cast and New Characters
The trailer introduced five new cast members. Shion Wakayama, who starred in Dandadan, joins the team as Sumi Matsuno, while Hiroshi Tsuchida of Usagi Drop portrays veteran character Ken Hikasa. Nobuhiko Okamoto from My Hero Academia takes the role of Nishi. Sayaka Sembongi from Delicious in Dungeon voices Meg Okumura, and Yumiko Kobayashi of Soul Eater plays Ivy, rounding out a group that depicts citizens facing plant transformation [1].
These actors join the core lineup picked in earlier production stages. Koki Uchiyama stars as Toshiro Kamiya, a tired young man buried in medical debt for his mother, while Minako Kotobuki, Junya Enoki, Aya Endo, and Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi voice his close peers. Their shared scenes depict ordinary citizens who must make unbearable personal sacrifices while navigating a harsh municipal system [2].
Voice casts shape how well these somber stories connect with viewers. Other recent updates in the industry include the Eternal Fool anime casting Minori Fujidera for its 2027 debut. For this adaptation, the chosen actors bring the steady skill needed to handle grief, fear, and quiet talks about death [1].

Staff on the Adaptation
Director Atsushi Yukawa makes his full series debut here. Yukawa was a co-unit director on the anime movie Suzume, and he now guides a staff that includes series writer Jin Tanaka from Oshi no Ko and character designer Robert Sato, who adapted Yasuda’s original drawings. Assistant director Ryo Shimura helped direct episodes 7 and 8 of Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season. Maki Takano from J.C.STAFF handles background art. Hitoshi Hibino, who worked on Puella Magi Madoka Magica, picks the colors to give this sunless world its cold, bleak look. Ryo Kikuchi shaped the overall look of the freezing town during early planning, ensuring that every street corner reflects the physical exhaustion of human life under an unmoving winter sky [1].
Compositing duties are split between three directors: Kazunari Ishikawa from Animocaramel, Chiaki Tokuda from Tera Effect, and Takayuki Aizu from SHAFT, who worked on Bakemonogatari. CG directors Naoki Yamamoto and Junya Hirano take care of digital work. Rie Matsubara from Seyama Editorial Office handles the film cuts, while Yota Tsuruoka leads the sound staff [2].
Visual planner Ryo Kikuchi helped Yukawa map out the run-down city streets. The staff gave extra care to snow on dirty asphalt, dim street lamps, and overgrown leaves on human statues, making the cold world feel realistic [1].

Theme Songs and Music
Band Tempalay plays the opening track, named “Shake! spit out.” The song plays in the new trailer with jerky beats and strange riffs that hint at Kamiya’s stressed thoughts. Tempalay did music for anime before, including the ending track for Sand Land: The Series [4].
Singer Nowlu sings the ending track, named “Iki” (息), which means “Breath” in English. The title points straight to the bad air and lung trouble at the center of this society, where citizens depend on oxygen produced by transformed relatives. Having Tempalay’s odd beats at the start and Nowlu’s calm singing at the close fits the two sides of Kamiya’s life, moving from street panic to quiet relief [2].
Tatsuya Kato composed the background score for the show. Kato worked on Dr. Stone, where his tracks helped build tension and mood during fast-paced scenes. His music relies on low synth hums and light strings, allowing quiet dialogue and the sound of falling snow to carry each scene without unnecessary melodrama [2].

The World of Fool Night
How does a town live when the sun never comes up and clean air runs short? The story happens on an Earth where thick clouds block the sky, leaving the land in endless winter and night. Natural plants died out, so people face a grim air shortage. To stay alive, doctors turn to transfloration, an operation that puts seeds into sick or dying patients so their bodies grow into oxygen-giving plants called Spiriflor. The official text calls transfloration “the desperate measure humanity has chosen to ensure its survival,” turning an awful medical choice into normal city law. Humanity depends on these human-plant beings to generate the breathable air that keeps the remaining urban communities alive [2].
The plot follows Toshiro Kamiya, a young man who works hard to pay rent, city taxes, and bills for his sick mother. Seeing no way out, Kamiya says that “living… there isn’t a single thing fun about it,” and signs up to become a plant. Once the seed takes root, his new ability to hear plants talk lands him municipal work helping families connect with relatives who have turned into flora [2].
Yasuda started the manga in Big Comic Superior in November 2020, winning fans with grounded characters and spooky body horror. Shogakukan put out volume 13 in June, and volume 14 comes out on November 30, 2026. Viz Media sells the English books, with volume 11 due on December 15. Shogakukan Asia handles distribution in Southeast Asia, expanding the series across international markets. The anime adaptation now brings Yasuda’s cold world to screens across the globe [1].
