Clicks Communicator Secures 12GB RAM Ahead of December Debut

Ahead of its December release, the Clicks Communicator locks in 12GB of RAM, a larger 4,350mAh battery, and Android 17 while maintaining a $499 promotional price.

London-based Clicks Technology has finalized hardware specifications for the Clicks Communicator ahead of its planned December release, upgrading the physical keyboard smartphone to 12GB of RAM and a 4,350mAh battery. The company revealed the updated configuration as preorder customers prepare to select hardware colors and accessories. Initial announcements scheduled the phone with 8GB of memory and Android 16. Now, the finalized handset will run Android 17 out of the box while maintaining its $499 promotional launch pricing through September 30. [1]

Clicks Communicator RAM Defies Component Shortages

Clicks Technology originally introduced the concept at CES as an auxiliary messaging companion rather than a standalone flagship replacement. Early reservations exceeded internal company expectations, prompting the development team to reevaluate device capabilities for demanding enterprise users who rely on a tactile typing experience throughout the entire working day. Why would a communication-first phone need such extensive memory? Extra memory gives the device substantial headroom when juggling enterprise chat tools and web tabs. [1]

The decision to include 12GB of RAM arrives during an aggressive supply squeeze across international memory markets. Mobile manufacturers face mounting component expenses as data center artificial intelligence demands absorb global DRAM and NAND chip supplies, prompting companies like Apple, Samsung, Google, and Motorola to raise handset prices or curb entry-level configurations. Flagship devices such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max reflect these escalating semiconductor costs. Clicks chose a different path. The company expanded hardware specifications while honoring the introductory preorder price point. This expansion directly counters wider hardware constraints from the global RAM crisis seen across consumer electronics. Co-founder Jeff Gadway confirmed that preorder customers locking in the early promotional discount will receive the upgraded 12GB memory tier without paying extra surcharges or unexpected configuration fees. Battery Capacity and Long Software Lifecycle

Physical dimensions accommodate a 4,350mAh lithium-ion battery, an increase over the 4,000mAh pack promised at CES. The company rates this power cell for more than 800 complete charge cycles before notable degradation occurs. To provide context, that capacity is 50mAh larger than the standard Galaxy S26 battery cell. Recharging options include wired USB-C connections alongside 15W Qi2 wireless charging capabilities, supported by internal magnetic arrays that align seamlessly with swappable decorative and functional backplates. [1]

Software plans underwent an equally significant revision. While Clicks initially scheduled an Android 16 launch accompanied by two years of platform upgrades, the finalized production hardware will now arrive with Android 17 installed straight out of the box. The manufacturer guarantees three major operating system updates through Android 20 and five years of ongoing security patches. That support trajectory sustains the Clicks Communicator through approximately 2032. While prominent Android manufacturers guarantee longer update windows on their top-tier flagships, the commitment comfortably mirrors the software stability seen in recent Android 17 platform updates across competing mid-tier devices. Internal computing relies on the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 (a 4nm processor designated MT8883) engineered for sustained efficiency. The silicon powers a compact 4.03-inch AMOLED display protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, operating at a fluid 120Hz refresh rate to maintain sharp text legibility during rapid messaging. Dual stereo speakers, three integrated microphones, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC with Google Pay round out the connectivity suite. [4]

Tactile Keyboard and Notification Workflows

The centerpiece of the handset is its integrated physical QWERTY keyboard, crafted with guidance from a former BlackBerry designer. Each physical key delivers tactile mechanical feedback intended to diminish typing errors during extended correspondence. Users can execute navigation shortcuts via a dedicated red Clicks Key, echoing functions from the company’s accessory line. Programmable bottom-row keys let users map custom device operations such as capturing instant screenshots or switching between active communication applications without reaching across the upper display surface. [4]

Directly above the keyboard sits the Prompt Key, paired with an LED Signal Light (a dedicated hardware loop that glows in custom colors to signal incoming alerts). Users can configure specific color profiles for individual contacts and tasks, with distinct pulse cadences distinguishing phone calls from instant messages. The implementation provides richer contextual awareness than the Pixel HiLight on Google’s Pixel 11 Pro, which remains largely dormant outside voice prompts. When outside text fields, tapping the Prompt Key summons Google Gemini. [4]

Software interaction centers on an adapted version of Niagara Launcher that organizes installed software into a clean vertical index along the screen’s right edge. Double-tapping the list locks the screen. Incoming alerts funnel into Message Hub, a prioritized home screen overlay that lets users preview and answer conversations directly without opening separate application windows or touching the screen. For leisure, the phone comes preloaded with the retro game Brick Breaker. Optical hardware includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization and a 24-megapixel front sensor. Cellular Service and Hardware Protection Plans

Clicks is expanding beyond hardware fabrication by introducing Clicks Mobile, an MVNO cellular venture operating through eSIM provisioning in the United States and the United Kingdom. Built to simplify configuring the Clicks Communicator as a focused secondary line, the carrier service runs over AT&T infrastructure in America and Vodafone networks in Britain. Early adopters activating the device receive two months of complimentary cellular voice and data access. Service begins at launch. [2]

Network flexibility extends beyond the proprietary MVNO subscription. The phone sells fully carrier-unlocked, housing a standard physical nano SIM card tray in addition to integrated eSIM hardware. Subscribers can easily maintain their current carrier plan, migrate between regional telecommunications providers, or operate distinct work and personal telephone numbers on a single physical unit. The setup provides dependable reception whether roaming abroad or handling domestic calling. [2]

Hardware reliability receives support through Clicks Care (a two-year accidental damage warranty program costing $129 in the US and Canada). The policy carries a $49 deductible and covers drops, beverage spills, and fractured display glass. Gadway emphasized that should hardware failures occur from the first day of ownership, the company will dispatch replacement units promptly. [2]

Preorder Customization and Release Schedule

Configuration portals opened on September 18 for reservation holders to choose finishes in Smoke, clover, or onyx with localized keyboard layouts. Accessory partner Dbrand engineered specialized add-ons tailored to the chassis, launching an MNML minimalist case priced at $39 and a $35 Prism tempered glass protector equipped with a self-aligning installation tray. Built-in case magnets guarantee continuous compatibility with Qi2 wireless charging stands and car mounts. Protection remains slim. [2]

Clicks will also sell an in-house $49 Ring bumper case that leaves the back exposed while protecting corners from impact. Buyers seeking aesthetic variation can select swappable charging covers priced at $50 for composite shells or $79 to $80 for textured Saffiano leather finishes. Audio traditionalists will welcome the inclusion of a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack, a genuine rarity on contemporary smartphones that eliminates reliance on wireless earbuds or external adapter dongles. [4]

Preorder pricing of $499 remains active through Wednesday, September 30, providing a $150 reduction before the regular retail price rises permanently to $649 on October 1. The hardware specifications are locked. Customer shipments begin worldwide in December, marking the arrival of an unconventional productivity smartphone that combines modern software flexibility with the tactile certainty of physical typing.
