Apple Confirms Four Siri AI Languages Coming by Year End

Apple has announced that Siri AI will gain support for four additional languages—Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese—by the end of the year following the iOS 27.2 rollout.

Apple announced that Siri AI languages will grow to include Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese by the end of the year. The voice assistant launched in September with English support only. Apple has now started rolling out more options for international users. The update gives millions of iPhone owners their first chance to use the assistant in their home languages [1].

Siri AI Languages Expand by Year End

The announcement came straight from Apple during its October product event. Representatives said that Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese will arrive “by the end of the year,” pointing to the upcoming iOS 27.3 update rather than an immediate patch [2].

Ryan Christoffel reported at 9to5Mac that Apple will probably debut the first developer beta of iOS 27.3 in the coming week to test the voice models before the holidays arrive. Developer seeds give software teams valuable feedback on pronunciation patterns, local grammar, and speech recognition accuracy before code reaches regular consumers. That schedule is tight. Engineers have only a few weeks to polish dialogue models and resolve system bugs before public deployment. If Apple keeps to its usual release cycle, users in Norway, Turkey, Vietnam, and regions using Traditional Chinese script will get the update on their phones in December [2].

The December launch will raise the total count of supported languages to ten. That jump shows how quickly Apple wants to widen its voice platform. While the assistant handled only English when it debuted in September, the addition of nine languages within three months opens access to millions of iPhone users globally [1].

Five Additions in iOS 27.2

The announcement of future languages coincided with the rollout of the iOS 27.2 update, which delivered the first big expansion for the assistant. In this update, Apple introduced support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Before this build, Siri AI worked solely with English prompts, which kept the system out of reach for non-Anglophone owners. The five new additions gave millions of people in Europe, Asia, and Latin America a chance to test voice interactions on their everyday devices [1].

Beyond language additions, iOS 27.2 brought practical upgrades to the assistant’s conversational abilities. Siri AI can now recall past conversations and retain personal context from earlier requests, eliminating the need for users to repeat background details during longer interactions, as Juli Clover reported for Techmeme [3]. Users don’t have to rephrase basic instructions.

To get the update ready for the public, Apple seeded the iOS 27.2 release candidate seed to developers for a final round of testing. That milestone arrived one week after the release of the fourth developer beta. Registered developers can install the seed through Settings > General > Software Update. Apple also seeded iPadOS 27.2 RC. Distributing the release candidate across developer testing rings helps Apple catch bugs and voice recognition glitches before the build rolls out to general consumers [1].

New Apple TV and HomePod Hardware

Apple paired its software update with new living room hardware. The company unveiled the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K with an A19 chip and full voice assistant capabilities. Joe Rossignol reported in MacRumors that the newly introduced A19 chip delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance and twice the graphics speed compared to the third-generation model [1].

The new Apple TV 4K includes an updated Siri Remote that features Find My integration with Precision Finding to help people locate lost remotes between couch cushions. Built-in far-field microphones let users give commands from anywhere in the room without picking up the controller. The box also supports surround sound using four HomePods placed in front and rear pairs, which creates a home theater audio setup. Those hardware tools make voice navigation much more convenient in family rooms [1].

Apple also revealed broader hardware updates alongside the streaming box, including a redesigned iPad mini with an 8.5-inch OLED display and an A20 Pro chip priced from $699, as detailed on Techmeme [3]. In addition, Apple announced a refreshed HomePod mini with built-in voice tools. The speaker uses an S10 chip. As detailed in our report on HomePod mini Siri AI support, the S10 processor runs advanced computational audio to optimize dynamic range and loudness in real-time. The device features new colors and a Sound Glow top that animates during playback [1].

Why China Stays on Hold

Apple confirmed that Chinese (Traditional) will arrive later this year. Mainland China will not receive the assistant. Traditional Chinese characters are used mainly in Taiwan, while mainland China relies on Simplified Chinese characters. Apple Intelligence features face regulatory oversight in Beijing, where authorities require companies to obtain state clearances before offering automated models to the public. Mainland users can’t access Siri AI because Apple has not cleared those reviews [2]. Talks with local regulators continue in the background.

Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to introduce some early Apple Intelligence features in China with iOS 27.3. However, Siri AI is not expected to be among them, as 9to5Mac detailed [2]. The assistant faces longer regulatory reviews before public launch.

Apple specified Chinese (Traditional) because users in Taiwan rely on the script. Customers in Taiwan who buy Apple devices will be able to speak to the assistant in their customary dialect once iOS 27.3 ships in December. In addition, travelers who use Traditional Chinese can turn on the feature anywhere in the world where the assistant is supported. By supporting the written script without launching in mainland China, Apple satisfies users in adjacent markets without violating local rules [2].

Siri AI Languages in Future iOS Updates

The addition of Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese shows Apple’s intent to bring Siri AI languages to different parts of Europe and Asia, beginning with countries that show high smartphone adoption rates [1]. Turkey and Vietnam are growing markets where local voice support gives Apple a strong advantage against rival platforms.

Voice adaptation involves demanding software engineering challenges for Apple’s development teams. Turkish is an agglutinative language where affixes attach to root words to create complex sentences, which makes tokenization and speech recognition far more difficult than in English. Vietnamese relies on tonal inflections where subtle pitch shifts completely change the meaning of a word, demanding precise acoustic models to prevent transcription errors. Software engineers must train neural speech models on thousands of audio samples to help the assistant understand accents and colloquial speech across diverse settings. Overcoming these linguistic complexities allows the assistant to hold natural conversations with users in both countries [2].

A total of ten supported languages before the new year gives Apple a broader base for its voice tools as competitors roll out multilingual AI features, helping the company keep pace with international demand for smart devices. Expanding Siri AI languages helps users in four more countries talk to their phones in their native tongues when iOS 27.3 arrives in December [1]. The global rollout will continue into the next cycle.
