Japanese publisher Micro Magazine announced that the Eating Monsters anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere on television in 2027 under animation studio WHITE FOX [1]. The production brings writer Daken’s fantasy book series to the screen after building a strong readership on web novel portals and light novel print imprints [3]. While production staff haven’t announced a specific broadcast season yet, the reveal confirms key studio partners and shares celebratory illustrations from the original creative team [2].

White Fox Announces Eating Monsters Anime Adaptation

Micro Magazine revealed the television project with its main animation studio partner, selecting WHITE FOX to handle animation production for the 2027 broadcast window after securing serial rights. Studio WHITE FOX previously produced television anime projects that gained wide followings. A newly released teaser visual shows the protagonist Mars sitting in the dark while eating hunted monster meat to survive [1]. Mars hunts monsters outside the palace walls [2].

The production adapts the fantasy novel series known as Monster no Niku o Kutteitara Oi ni Tsuita Ken, often shortened by fans to Mon-Niku. Production officials launched an official website at mon-niku.com and an official X account under the handle @mon_niku_PR to share broadcast updates. Fans can follow the social account for future announcements [1].

While broadcast networks and voice cast members haven’t been revealed yet, the production committee confirmed that character designs will adapt the visual style established by light novel artist Shiba for the upcoming television adaptation [1]. The story follows a young royal who inadvertently turns survival foraging into formidable combat strength, eventually rising to become a king through pure misunderstanding. Readers in English-speaking territories can read the ongoing story through digital editions from Cross Infinite World, which published the sixth novel volume digitally on September 30. Volume six reached digital platforms on September 30 [2].

Eating Monsters Light Novel Origins on Web Platforms

Writer Daken first began posting the fantasy story as a web novel on the self-publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2022. The author continued writing and uploading chapters on the platform until January 2023, building the groundwork for print compilation. Daken worked on the story for an entire year before securing a print contract [2].

Publisher Micro Magazine acquired the fantasy story for its GCN Bunko paperback imprint, releasing the first compiled book volume in September 2023 with original cover art and interior illustrations provided by Shiba. The publishing imprint was founded to deliver fantasy titles under the larger GC Novels umbrella, which celebrates its twelfth anniversary after launching in 2014 as a dedicated home for web fiction. Manga artist Karin Suzuragi later adapted Daken’s story into a serialized manga that expanded the audience across print channels. Together, the light novel volumes and manga editions have accumulated a wide following among fantasy readers [1].

That steady readership shows sustained audience interest since the story moved from online web chapters to bookstore shelves. Daken is also known as the author of Dare ga Yūsha o Koroshita ka, having published five separate literary works within a single year of debuting as a professional writer. Micro Magazine keeps releasing new fantasy titles under both GC Novels and GCN Bunko on a regular monthly schedule [1].

Royal Poison and Monster Hunts Drive Prince Mars

The story centers on Mars, the twelve-year-old first prince of the kingdom of Farune, who lives in daily fear of assassination attempts within his royal palace. Because court assassins slip deadly poison into nearly all of his meals, Mars slips away from the castle into a dangerous forest where wild beasts roam, hunting wild creatures to stave off starvation. To avoid deadly meals, he hunts monsters outside castle walls and cooks their meat in secret. He can’t eat anything served at court [2].

During one nightly hunt, a red-haired woman carrying a massive greatsword encounters the young prince and offers to train him. “You have promise. Become my apprentice,” she tells Mars, unaware that he’s merely trying to find his next meal. Mars doesn’t know how to explain the misunderstanding, but he accepts her guidance anyway [2].

Mars soon discovers a hidden secret that changes his life: consuming monster meat directly enhances his strength and grants him formidable endurance against physical harm during battles. With his mentor’s training and his newfound power, the prince fends off palace assassins while getting pulled into larger territorial conflicts. Those wilderness hunts kick off an expanding series of political conspiracies and continental wars, with Mars positioned at the very center of the turmoil. That secret changed his fortunes in Farune [2].

Original Creators React to the Television Project Announcement

Following the anime reveal, original author Daken shared a personal message reflecting on the novel’s surprising journey from an obscure web draft on Shōsetsuka ni Narō to a full television adaptation. “Honestly, I never imagined this at all,” Daken said in a statement translated from the Japanese press release. He explained that his debut serialization on Shōsetsuka ni Narō initially received almost no readership and failed to pass even the first round of website writing contests [1].

“It feels like I’m watching a long dream,” Daken said, asking fans to watch the upcoming show casually and laugh with the characters. Novel illustrator Shiba also congratulated the production team, saying that watching the story expand into manga and anime brings genuine excitement. Shiba added that he will keep working hard on novel illustrations so that new readers can discover the original books [1].

Manga artist Karin Suzuragi expressed astonishment at how quickly the television project materialized after drawing the serialized comic version. Suzuragi said that seeing Mars and his companions receive animation and voice acting will bring new charm to the characters, adding that she looks forward to supporting the show as an avid fan. Both artists drew celebratory artwork for the announcement [1].

The anime announcement arrives as Micro Magazine prepares to publish the seventh light novel volume of the series on October 20 under the GCN Bunko imprint. Following that release, a third collected manga volume ships on October 29 to continue the visual adaptation. The simultaneous book releases give fans new story chapters across both print formats this autumn. A third manga volume follows on October 29 [1].

Select retail bookstores plan to distribute promotional bookmarks featuring newly drawn artwork to celebrate the anime greenlight and book releases [1]. Meanwhile, Western manga readers are also tracking print announcements such as Titan Manga shipping Chiruran in early 2027 while keeping an eye on new fantasy adaptations. For digital light novel readers, Cross Infinite World released volume six in English on September 30, offering translated chapters ahead of the television premiere [2].

With print volumes releasing in October and animation production underway at WHITE FOX, fans can look for more details about broadcast dates and voice talent over the coming months. The Eating Monsters anime adaptation is scheduled to make its debut on Japanese television in 2027. Studio staff will share more information soon [1].
